Tel Clop.—All over the Northwest the work

anticipated. Oats , and barley are a fair yield—
the latter having escaped being etsined by foul

trams or TesCA3L ann 310osma.—lifa have
news from Italy that Tuseany and Modena are
arranging u union of their forces to assiet'any
attempt .to force back upon them their late
rulers. It was hoped at lett accounts by the
Liberals that Parma would join In the condi
tion, and that mica and Garibaldi would guide
it to a successful issue. In commotion with this
it is confidently asserted that Rome and Naples
refuse to'disouss the question of an Italian Con
federation en loeg as the Dukes are excluded
from their deminlono—a statement 'which is
very probable, but Is not likely to have mach
effect on the people of the Duchies. The correa
pendent of the Daily Notre, writing from Gari
baldi's head-quarters, at Lovere, says:
~ S eventeen Roman battalions have been sent
by the Provincial Gooornments of the Romagna
towards the Cattolica. When arrived there half
of them • will be directed on Urbino, the other
half on Gubblo and Perugia. These battalions
will soon be increased by two thousand volun
teers dismissed from the Piadmontese service,
and by others coming from the Romagna, Fer
rara and Comacchlo. The patriotic army has
also at its diapesal eight field guns and two
squadrons of dragoons. With theca forces it can
both meet the Papal Swiss troops and maintain
order in the provinces. If the danger should
come from Modena, Parma or Tusosny, they will
be able to Join the Confederate troops there, and
to repel any attempt that may be made by the
pretenders to the thrones of those little Statee.
The more I study the program of public opinion
amongst the volunteers the more I am convinced
that Napoleon's Influence is quite gone. You
are aware that General Gailbaldi's headquarters
are established In this villege of the Vat Tem
pi". This place may, therefore, be conefdered
as the very focus of Italian patriotic aspirations
for both nutcase and men belonging to the en
lightened class of Italian society. I have spo
ken with a great many of them, and they are
unanimous In condemning the peace, and in sp
ank); the Emperor of having eacrifieed Italy in
his selfish and mysterious! projeota"
On the whole, the prospects for the peace of
Italy are not very brilliant or very hopeful. A
proclamation of the Junta In the Legatious soya,
significantly Europe has learned that no
rest is to be looked for here until !awe are had
suitable to contemporary civilization," and adds:
"The champion of Italian independence sympa
thises with ne,and gives his concurrence in ourrea
sociable claims. Confidence and concord,orderand
organization; our long minority Is over, and we
take our affairs into our own keeping and trans
mit independence to our children." We are
informed, too, that the general commiuding
the Swiss troops in the Papal service has been
to Rome, to indicate to the Pope that the native
soldiers cannot be depended on, and that some
thing moat be done. Upon hearing this, Plus
lE. made some promises of reform; and the
Dabs d'Grammont has gone to Paris to find out
;bolt' his Holiness is to be reinstated In the Ro
magna. We shall soon see to what expedients
this cabinet of the Tulle Hes will have recourse;
but, meanwhile, the Independence Beige thus
refers to the proposed reform :
Emma
"Our lettere from Rome announce the Intro
duction of a reform in the Pontifical Stoles, the
importance of which no one will be disposed to
deny. In consequence of the negotiation' 'Web
have been going on with reference to the Pre
sidency of the future Italian Confederation, the
Pontifical government has consented to adopt
the Code Napoleon, suppressing only Ilion arti
cles relating to the civil marriage. A few days
ago we announced the adoption of this same code
without the objectionable restriction above men
tioned by the Provielonal government of the Ro
magas. , If this resell:llion has really b.ten taken
by the Roman government. it is probable that
the fall of Cardinal Antonelli will precede these
modifioallons In the political system which that
minister has never ceased to support with such
deplorable obstinacy."
