NAPLES, July o.—One of the ttglieet, and for
the Government one of the most menacing facts
which I have bad to record for the last ten years,
took place yesterday morning. 1 have already
spoken of dissensions among the Swiss, and of
the arrest and confinement of several in San
Elmo. Party feeling, according to their nation
ality, has eomething to do with it; a. portion.
sympathising with the French, and others with
the Germane, in the war which is now ragtag In
the North. There have, however, been: other
causes of disquietude among them—depending
upon the change of their banner, and on their
being retained in service after their time had
expired. It appear!) that in 1848 the 818185
Confederation gave notice that it would not en
ter into conventions with foreign Governments
to supply them with troope, and the last 00E040-
lion of this kind expired in 1857. The foreign
regiments have, however, been kept up by re;
crafting since that time for various terms, and
300 or more of the men, it appears, had com
pleted their service six or seven month abuse,
and demanded their cove. Hence one ClOBO Of
Irritation. Another was this : —Two or three
weeks since it was communicated Ogrieusem tot
to the 9 tries Colonels by their Government, that
they could no longer use the Swiss arms on their
banners. This was communicated to the troupe
by Gen. Sacrists on the Gth inst., and I am told
that the "Bear" wan cut out or removed from
the banner of a regiment. All these circuit
stance, created great irritation of feeling, and It
was rumored for Bowel days that there would
be a row. Accordingly, portions of the 2d and
3,1 regiments, on the night of the Bth lost,
marched out of barracks and went to the bar
racks of St. Polito, where dill 4th regiment is to
quarter,
Rees attempts were made to seduce the men,
but they kept close, and slier Hieing the banner
they all went off to Cape di Monte, where the
King is residing. They were about 300 in num
ber, sod as they marched up they shouted,
among other things, r„ . „1 France" Prettan
lions were taken at the Place, and the revolters
then went off to Campo Menlo, which is Just
outside the city on thp road to Rome. Here•they
formed themselves into a square and placed the
colors in the centre, throwing out their scouts to
as not to be surprised. During the night they
shot the keeper at a cabaret who refused to give
them wine, and consumed his stook. The city
was, during the .cote of this time, In the most
indescribable contusion. Shops were closed,
people ran off to their homes, large bodies of .
troops patrolled the city, and a regiment was
thrown into the Palace. Ai the same time the
12th Regiment of the Line, a foreign regiment,
was ordered out, and all the avenues by which
the revolters could leave their ground wen
closed Things remained in this state till half
past four o'elook on the following morning, when
Gem Souris demanded permission of iten.
Filao
gieri to have a parley with the*ass, hoping to
lend them back to their duty. [On approaching
the ground, however, ha was received with elms,
and he was compelled to retire. Two cannon.
were therefore brought up, and, being put In'
position, the General promised pardon to ench Ji
would return to their duty, and that they should
be permitted to leave Naples on laying down
their arms. This the men refused to do until
they wore on hoard, all but 25, who surrendered
and were abut up in the Round-house ou the
ground. Meantime, the others kept advancing,
with a view to get possession oe the cannon.
Orders were then given to fire, and two shots
from each gun were fired.
An officer who went over the ground Immedi
ately after counted 21 bodies and 40 wounded ;
160 threw down their arms, and gave themselves
up, 60 others fled to the country ; but, u it had
been arranged not to make ude of Neapolitan
troops, they were not pursued. Intelligence was
eent to the King of the affair, and the officer of
the staff who communicated It was Immediately
sent back in great baste toward Mime, to ware
the 11th Regiment of the Line and the cavalry,
who had received orders to atop all the Swiss
who came by that road, that the 13th Foreign
Regiment was expected to return that way.
Now, the 13th had been guarding all the outlets
from the camp during the night, doing good ser
vice, and it was mere chance that a collision did
not (Ake place. In the city, as you will easily
imagine, the greatest consternation prevailed the
whole of the day. Shops with any valuables in
them were closed; many had their ehuttere half
up, so aft to be ready on the instant to be closed;
and the cats which brought in the dead and the
wounded increased the painted sensitiveness of
public feeling. It is said that in one regiment
there wore as many as 900 who were anxious for
their range. The affair is by no means regarded
as over. .The worst feeling now exists between
the 2d, the 3d, and the 4th regiments, It having
been the last which acted against the revolters
of the first two regiments. Last night there 1118
a great movement in the barracks of those
troops. A colonel and two young officers are
said to have been killed and the major severely
wounded, but I cannot give details at present.
The King and all the royal family, accompan
ied by 80 Hussars, oame in from Capo di Monte
last night. His Majesty dwells on the possibility
of another nocturnal visit from Swiss revolters,
and such visits are not agreeable. While the
Swiss are in this discontented elate, and can no
longer be depended on es the chosen supportere
of the Government, troops have been sent off to
Silent°, where the public mind Is in a great fer•
ment, as is eabLio be the case also In Calabria.
From Sicily, too, the reports are very oniony
I am told that Miniscalehi, the Director of Po
lice in Palermo, has sent in a report to the Gov
ernment to Bey that, unless some eatiefacdory
and tranquilizing measures be adopted, he can
not answer for the peace of country. Messina
continues still in the tame degree of ferment.
A Napolitan war steamer took of those who had
been arrested after the demonstration in favor of
the French cud Sardinians, and deposited them
in the Central Prison of Palermo, without giving
them time to procure either money or drew. This
feet had created much Irritation. The entire
number of killed in the engagement of yesterday
and Friday night were 40; 260 prisoners; three
officer' severely wounded are dead; many others
slightly wounded; 10,900 leave this evening or
to-morrow, having received what ought to have
been offered six months ago. Such is the faith
that the Swifts have in the Government that the
report goes that they refuse to go by the vessels
hired by the Government lest they should be
scuttled.
Tun Federal Buottanan Meeting, book of the
Court House, last Tuesday, was a very curious
affair. The old veterans of Democraoy ware all
placed In the back ground. The Reading poll
dating had everything their own way, and car
ried affairs with a high band. No ono was per.
!nutted to speak or to make a motion, who did
not belong to the 'clique.' All unsophisticated

Cue or Da. Dor. —Oar readers are already
so familiar with the particulars of the case of
Dr. John Day, lately taken by en adroit ant

here. They know that'he was kidnapped In
Kansas by a party of Missourians, while in par

of Ma arrest, a runaway negro, a passenger car
ried or hire, in hie wagon, was made an exense
for taking him to Missouri and incarcerating
him in jail; that it was never proved that hewn
in the Stale of Missouri in all his life; that it
woe shown that the negro went into Kansas with
a permit from Ids muter, and that Doy could
hare had no share lolls alleged sot of rebellion
in running away. With-these things fresh in
their recollection, they will not wonder at the
salon of hid Kansas friends in rescuing Min as
they did; nor will they be astonished or alarmed
by the eatery which the Northern pro-Slavery
journai i are =klieg in consequence thereof.—
We do of justify them; but their "crime" is mu
that has righteous excuses. Had a fugitive '
slave, aisobar g ed bye Commissioner In Illinois,
been seized by a party of man eaters and hur

would never have ventured sword in condemna

a party of Democrats, who never pretended that
they had authority to arrest him, and the sub
sequent decapitation of their victim, that the
head might be sent to Missouri for the reward
offered, "dead or alive," never excited a word in
reprobation, though the tragedy, occurring in
our own State, was one of the most horrible in

TERRIBLE INDIA 7/ EIOAORMERT.—From our
friend, J. Jewett Wilcox, Clerk of the Mesmer
Omaha, just down for Sioux City, we leant that
a bloody and sanguinary butchery came off shoot
one hundred miles out in the interior of Nebras
ka and Decatur, between the Omahsand Brute
• Sioux Indians, on the 23d inst.
A band of fifty Omahas, men, women and
children, were returning from a hunting expe
dition, and while encamped, were stealthily at
tacked In the night by a barge band of the Brute
Sioux. The Omahas had seventeen killed, rev
*mitten wounded, and two prisoners taken, and
succeeded in killing and securing Ail Beeps of
their enemies.
The IMEIIVOrII of the massacre arrived at their
reserve, near Decatur, bringing the dead and
woondekon the day the Omaha passed up: Mr.
Wileoretstad that the Sioux neither epered age
nor sea. He saw a dead infant with a frightful
wound althea its forehead, killed in the engage
ment. The dead and wounded lying in the bot
tom, presented a terrible epectacle. The lamen
tations of the friends and relativea, with faces
blackened, and in deep mourning, were truly
piteous and heartrending. The wounded are in
charge of the agent, who endeavors to smell°.
rate their condition as much es possible. —St.

Roe. EDW•RD Baron OS Tin SUNDAY Laws.—
St. Louis bas been passing through a period of
excitement, like many other large cities, in re
gard to enforcing the Sunday laws. To a meet
ing on this subject, held there on Saturday
night, Mr. Batee, who lives in the country, wrote
the following explicit and admirable letter
4 .1 am very Berry to hear that there [espy oc
casion fora popular demonstration to uphold an
Institution so ancient, so sacred, eo lawful, and
so aeceeoary to the peace, the comfort, and the
reepectablilty of tinkly. Its religious charac
ter, sa a holy day, ought alone to be auk/Jana
for its prOtrotfon in a ettrietieneommunity; but,
that failing, the laws of the land, made for its
sect:ally, ought to be as strictly enforced an the
laws made for the protection of persons and
property. Vice an I crime are always progres
sive and cumulative. If the Sunday lawe be
neglected or despised the laws of persons and
property will noon share their foto, and be
equally disregarded. Most respectfully,
EDWARD Bares."
Tue PAPAL PIPSIPILIICT.—WhiIe the European
