In certain conditions of the body, the mind
eeems to become possessed of a new and mien&
pentad power, independent of violation—elusive
and uumanageable is the plot of a dream—to
which we fain would give an agreeable solution,
yet ere helplessly married on through a series of
accumulated difficulties. Perhaps the term
''natural clairvoyance" will beet describe this
power; since the eye of the mind looks straight
through ell. meiterial hindrances, and not only
perceives that -which is beyond the horizon of
the bodily eye, but foresees whet has not yet
come to pass.
Of ensue such experiences ore very rare; and
as they generally occur at the most unexpected
moments, it is next to impossibleto go beck,
and ascertain bow the impression first makes it
self felt. Once, only, hove I been ootumious of
the operation of the faculty. This took place in
Racine, Wisconsin, on the morning of the let of
March, 1855. lily bedroom at the hptcl was au

Molted eyes, lazily trying to solve the queetion,
when, nil to once, my vision enomed to be re

Hits is done; before asking me to acoount for the

But, in certain conditions, the mind also fol.
errs. This may either take place in dreams, or
in those more vague and uncertain impreselone
which are termed presentments. I will only
relate is single ioatance, since it Blum:flees to ad
duce anything which is not beyond the range of
atecideat or coincidence. I spent the winter of
1.314.5 at Frankfort-on-the-Main, living with
Mr. Richard Storrs Willis, is the family of a
German merchant there. At that time there
was only a mail once a Month betweod Europe
and America; and if Co failed to receive letters
by 000 steamer, we were obliged to wait four
weeks for the next chance. One day the letters
came as usual for Mr. Willis, but none for me.
I gave up alt hops for that month, and went to
bed in a elate of great disappointment and de
jection; but iu the night I dreamed that it was
morning, and I was dressing myself, when Mr.
Willis buret into the room, saying:
, •The postmen is below—perhaps he has let
tere for you. Come up into the dining room, e
and you can see him from the window."
Wo thereupon went up to the dining room on
the third story, and looked down into the street,
and there stood the postman, who, as soon as he
sew us, held up a letter at arm's length, holding
it by the lower right hand corner. Though he
was in the &reel, and I in the third story, I read
my name upon it.
I arose in the morning with my head full of
the dream. When I runabout half dressed, Mr.
Willis came into my room repeating the very
words I bad heard In my sleep. We went into
the dining room together, looked down, and
there stood the postman, holding up a letter by
the lower right hand corner! Of course, 1 could
not road the address at that distance; but my
name L'Od upon It. In this case, the circumstan
ces were altogether beyond my control; and the
literal manner In which the dream was fulfilled
in every minutia particular, is Its most astonish
ing feature. Nothing was added or omitted; the
reality was a daguerreotype of the vision. Nev-.
er before had my friend entered my room at so
early an hour—never before had my postman
held up a letter in that manner. If a coinci
dence only, the accuracy is therefore all the
more marvelous.
When I was last in Florence, the eculptor,
Powers, related to me a still more remarkable
story; which had come to pans only a few deye
before my arrival. A young Englieh lady of
hie acquaintance, who was living with her broth
er in the city, was on torsos of great intimacy
and affection with a lady of her own age, who
was spending the eumailer with her father in a
villa among the Apponines, near Pistoja. This
friend bed invited her° to visit her during the•
summer; she had accepted the invitation; and
the middle of August was fixed upon as the
time. Throo weeks before, however, the young
lady hod a remarkable dream. It seemed to her
that the day of her departure for the villa near
Pletojo had arrived. tier trunk was packed,
and early in the morning a very Mika!' old car
riage drove to the door to receive bor. The
vetturino slung her trunk to the axletree with
ropes—a disposition of baggage which she had
never before seen. She took her seat, and for
several hours journeyed down the vale of the
Arno, noticing the scenery, whiab was entirely
new to her. Several trifling incidents occurred
on the. way, and there wee a delay, ocaaeioned
by the giving way of the Wines; but towards
evening she reached the Appel:line villa.

Thereupon he gave directions to the vetturiao,
who drove to Idr. Smith's villa. The host re

you comfortable for the _night. That will be

strung to their utmost, tension, gave way, and
she fell upon the floor In a swoon. Fortunately,
there was no ground for superstitions forebod

"Among the Italians, ere long, some trouble
may be looked for. It Is impossible that they
will rest satisfied Under;Austrian rule. Tho
Duchies will again expel their Austrian rule.
Lombardy, rescued from the thrall of the Norm
of Hapebarg, will be a perpetual example to them.
It is impossible that, after Italy has dreamed.
during the last thirty-five years, she will Bit
tamely down, under the disappointment which
the Villairanea arrangement has caused. Ere
long, it is easy to foresee, Italy will be in arms,
resolved to be independent. The great mistake
Napoleon has made, is the permitting the resto

discontented Duohles, which so eagerly repudi

SHARP PRACTICIA-A planter, named Henry

While there they Introduced the "ball and Bare"

and the sharpers finally induced their visitor to

It is umlaut to add that the draft was bogus, and
that the sharpers suddenly decamped with the
