Whxat hi CosmtonccT. The capaoity of
Connecticut soil to produoe wheat is not exhaus
ted, If we may judge from the following
from a letter dated Middlefield, Joly *3. 1
“We bare just harvested fire oerea of eplen
did wheat, real tehile, sowed after plowing in a I
crop of clorer knee high. Shall try wheat over
seals'this year. So you eee that wheat can he
grown in old Connecticut, If U is only tried the
right way. Sowing wheat with a drill is capital,
And must be done in this Bute, for no man oan
eow as wellj>y hand, and wo oan and should
produce our own breadstuffs. The chipper of the
mowing machine is heard now all around me,
but it baa been a 'hard row for us to hoe.' The
high prices of labor brought hundreds to their
censes, and will thousands next year.”
It is reported in Washington that the Missis
