lfMr. Jones left Cherry Creek on his return
journey about four weeki - slow. Be was not
' to realize a farthing for ail of hie expen
, , ditare of timeand money and his long continued
upsilon and fatigue. Many of the emigrants
• 'TM previous to his departure, suffered extreme
ly, and there were lemming manifestations of
desperation among them. About 500 of the
most reckless had organized themselves into a
company of "Lynchers," and there was a sworn
purpose among them to visit summary veogesnce
upon all persona who had been instrumental in
circulating false reports of the existence of gold
at Cherry Creek, Mason Clark, formerly of St.
Charles, Floyd County, lowa, woe suspected and
convicted of having been one of the fraudulent
letter-writers, and he was put to death in a most
horrible manner. 'Four mules were hitched to
the extremities of hie limbs, made to draw in
different direction; and he was literally torn to
pieces; Bore Allen, formerly of Chickasaw Conn
- .I,y, and two other persons, whose names our in
fonaut could not remember, were shot for the
' tame offense. Great indignation existi against
the inhabitants of Omaha City and Council
Bluffs, and the returning gold hunters threaten
vengeance upon those towns."
Gunn E1110)1111011. —lt is probable that the
war in Ruromespecially if it itionld exsend to the
German Confederacy, will largely increase emi
gration to the Thited'States. Four young Ger
mans have recently arrived in this city from the
Slate of Hesse Darmstadt, who represent that
the Government there has ordered a commit,-
lion of all able bodied men between the ages of
twenty and forty, and that uo purchases or ex
changes are allowed by which any one can
escape seven years' service in the army. Th ese
Janes emigrants are owners of vineyards on the
Rhieie, and baronet a snug little property of
• their elck. which they assigned in trust to their
friends before their departure. They represent
alio that they left their country on twelve hours'
notice, and that a large number of their country
men will be forced to follow their example In
canto escape the new conscriptions. —N. P.

—Our democratic brethren of the free States
undergo a treatment from their southern breth

Rae is the dose for which they are now train
ing their stomachs. It is from the Richmond
Enquirer:
"From every quarter of the South, we are in
formed that this question of protection of Slavery
in his Territories will be made an issue before the
Charleston Convention as an artiole in the plat
-form of the party. The denial or evasion of it
will involve the party in hopeless defeat at the
South. The Convention will, in our opinion,
meet the issue, and upon the Dred Scott decision
.affirm the duty of Cougress to protect rights Jo._
dlcially acknowledged."
. A GOOD Rerir.—A native deacon, named Ha
gop, ham now the charge of the Protestant Ar
menian church at Trebizond, Asia Minor. To
show hiaahrewd quickness in reply, the following
anecdote is related: Some years since, the dea
con was employed by an English - mercantile
house in Sananm, and was required to work on
the Sabbath- This he steadily refused to do.
Hie employer used all his ingenuity to con
vince him that it was necessary and right to do
no thee. "What!" said he one day "if an ass
fell into a pit on the Sabbath day, does not even
the Savior say that it is right to pull him out?"
"Certainly," replied Ilogop, "but if an nee have
a habit of going every Sabbath and falling into
the LUDO pit, then his owner ought either to fill
up the pit or sell the ass!"
