Mu KANSAN AND NEBRASKA BOUNDANT LINE.
Instructions hove been forwarded from the Gen
et:lel Land Office to Surveyor General Burnett, di
recting him to contract, at the earliest possible
period, for the enrvey•of an extension of the base
lines of public surveys in Kansas and Nebraska
on the 40th° of north latitude, which is also the
. bonnday line between those Territories to the
summit of the Rocky Mountains. More than
usual accuracy is required in running this lino
upon the meridian. There will be constructed
at the intersection of this lino with the commit of
the Rocky Mountains, the point where the boun
daries of Kansas, Nebraska and Utah meet, a
conapicuona and durable monument, inscribed on
rte eastern face .40° N. L.;" on its western
"Tashi" on the northern, ..1859;" and on the
southern, ••Rocky Mountains."

Pastore, Charge d'Affaires for the Republic of

doing so in the present distracted state of the

African slave trade meetings have been com
menced in Georgia. The citizene of Berke Co.,
met at Waynesboro' on the 27th of May, Judge
Shewmake presiding, and listened to a long
speech from Col. Wm. B. Gaulding, in . favor of
the restoration of the African slave trade. The
Colonel argued that. Slavery was morally, relig
lonely, and legally right, and that if the slave
trade between the States was considered expe
dient, it was equally just and legal to reopen
the Articled Aare traffic. The meeting is re-
Veiled to have been very enthiniastio.
