,s,uauntsTocr.-42iose who have traveled 'inßuenos Ayres end on some of out. great prairies inform us that the wild cattle roaming near the salt deposits, and have the opportu nity of visiting 'them frequently,- are better conditioned than elsewhere; and the same truth may be observed in stables where the salting of cattle is pursued with regularity. The components of salt (chlorine and soda,) are to be found in the blood of all animals in health and generally combined in theform of salt as well as redundant quantities of theEeparate constituents not en combined. .The came is true in degree of cow's milk. Sheep require salt, and in addition to its other healthful ef fects, it appears to invigorate them Its a stim ulant; for after the exposure of lambs to cold rains and:winds, and when theyseem benumbed a teaspoonful of salt placed in their-months frequently revives them in a short time, so that they become cheerful and playful. Horses, and in deed al I ani male, man included, require salt; and animals confined in stables seem to reqrair e addition alq uantity us compared with those which roam at largo Mans English herdsmen top dress their lands with tire bush els or more of salt per acre each year. By this method the animals are supplied in part with the conotittients of the salt as forming part of increased crops; Initial additional salt. The Lime and Salt Tiliiture we have eo often re commended, when applied to grass lands, rea ders the pasture much m: are acceptable to cat. Ile Working Faris, nA.lnam Crsa.—l th herbs, where it i o s desirable to retain all curin th g eir of virtues we endeavor to hare them them go through the drying process without exposure to the heat of the summer sun. And if you would secure the best of hay from your clover, it should be permitted to remain spread upon the ground only lone enough for the leaves to become partially wilted. Then put it up in small Cocks, say three feet in diameter and four or five feet high. Thus put up, the air will circulate through the stuns and cure it sufficiently for the stack or the barn. Every farmer should, however, provide himself with cloth caps. To do this, take cheap muslin, a yard wide, and cut it up into yard lengths. These should be spread over the cocks, and the corners made heavy by fastening a stone .or a piece of brick in them, so that the wind will not blow them off. Clover, timothy or grain may thus be protected against foul weather. If the clover can remain a week or ten days, it will be all the better. If however, there is an ample supply of bright, dry straw on the farm to mix with clover, the latter may be removed from the field idler remaining in the cock only one or two days. In stowing it away now, a layer of clover should be followed by a layer of straw, and so on alternating the one with the other. This is e n excellent plan, and when opened in the winter, the straw itself will be found superior fodder, besides having preserved the clover from heating or mouldlog.—Ohi e Valley Farmer. Two Earner or WAR UPON BUMPS& —Tbe New York Economist concludes an article upon this subject as follows: "If we are gelded by these facts of history, odditionto the more recent experience of the Crimean war, we shalt come to the conclusion that the benefits to be derived by war have been exaggerated. There is little roomy look for any increased business for ships or exporters, as a consequence of the calamities of Europe, but on the other hand, partly by reason of our lose of credit, we shall feel the indoenee of the demand for Money which actuates governments, bankers and merchants at such a crisis." • Sleantehtpo, GREAT REDUCT/ON.-TItE.VANDER IIILY LINE of United Shaer MCI Steamships.
