A passenger train on the Pennsylvania railroad
left Doncaster for Philadelpala, the conductor
observed a small colored boy sitting in'one cor*
ner of the dar, wilha bundle under' bis .mm.
When the condactor asked him where ho was
going, ibo boy replied, “lo Canada,” but where
he came from ho didn’t exactly know; ho
koweVer, that he came from Baltimore. The
condactor kindly passed the boy over the route
towards the “land of the free.”
Explosion. —A puddling farnaca at the Cam.
brie Works, in Johnstown, exploded on Friday
morning, scattering destruction around. The
damper haring been closed when ft should have
been opened, there was an accumulation of ex
ploslve gases, which resulted as one would ex
pecL The furnace was almost demolished,
bricks, olc. r scattered in all directions, and five
persons employed about the mill were burned
and bruised badly, though not fatally. The loss
to the company is considerable.

Ox Monday night of last week, eleven pris
oners escaped from the Adams county jail, by
quarrying a hole through Lho walls of the build
ing and yard. Two of them were recaptured,
and two more i burned of their own accord ond
declared that Uu*r were willing to serve out
their sentences.
