Analysis of the crop Bbows that a great change has been made in locality Stark county nearly retains ita former promi nence ; nearly all the other counties of that re gion have lost ground, and the great corn conn, ties of Miami and Bdota have taken their place Butler, Warren, Preble, Clermont, Hamilton Drako, Brown, Highland, Ross, Pickaway, and Franklin, raised more- wheat in 1857 thanlBso and more than they had in any previous year! The counties in the Southern portion of the State, eeem to suffer less from insects. In eleven oounties In the Southern portion of Ohio the Wheat crop in 1857 was 2,226,784 bushels greater than in 1855 ; aud in eleven'counties of the “Wheat Region” the reduction since 1860 is 8.118,550 bushels. The entiro reduction of Wheat in this State is in a few counties: Corn.—The crop of corn for 1857, reported to Coanty Auditors, was 82.555,156 bushels, being the largest quantity ever prodneed in the State except that of 1855. This orop -alternates with alternate yeara, a fact proven by comparison The aggregate product for the years 1850, 1852 1804 and 1856, was 224,799,191 bushels, and for 1851, 1853, 1855 and 1857 (alternates) was 304,749,992, showing that one set of alternates falls nearly 80,000,000 bushels below the other. The number of acres planted lb the first set was 7,325,365; in the latter, 8,160,626, ehowing that the increase of acrea wae not in proportion to difference in results, for the general average ; per aore in thftfirst was only $1 02 in the latter, 38.26 bushels. The average of pro duction of nearly 00/00 acres in Butler couoty, is 48 bushels per acre, and Ross, Pickaway, nod -Fayette almosuas great. Tho crop of 1858 warf above two-thirds of an average.quantity per acre, or about C 0,000,000 bushels. (The Commissioner gives the aggre gate and average production of certain grains per acre in various counties in the Slate—facts which were prepared and published in this paper several months ago. Ilia deductions are as fol fows :) . . l-_ The increase of acres of grain planted in IS5i was 15 per cenL but the product was less in qaantily and inferior in quality. 2. In counties embracing about one-eighth of the State, the proportion nf land sown in corn and wheat is About SO per cent, and tbe largest prodnet per acre is 85 bushels. In Ham ilton lh* product i» over 40 bushels per acre ; Tickaway about 40./ ' Tbe report of ih/crops for 1 «'.S are as follows compared wuh !So7: Actual cropsj)f ISST. No tragedy that has ever deepened the stain on the soil of the “dark and bloody ground,” can compare with this. The state of Kociety whero each an event could take is worse than that of tho cani ba! Islands. Toe ferocity of the mob that mur dered Lowe is amazing. It is difficult lo under stand how human beings could have heoomesuch fiends. Tbo circumstances briefly slated are as follows : Lowe, a desperato man, was anxious to tight u due! with Maxwell, and falling to ob laiu ao acceptance of his challenge, proceeded, armed, to the vicinity of his enemy’s office, and called upon him to come forth. Maxwell mado his .appearance, surrounded by a mob armed with shot-guns, rifles, pistols and bowie knives, and commenced an attack upon Lqwe, who fled amid a volley of shuts, and a man who at tempted to shelter him, was killed on the spot Lowe is said to have worn a ©oat of mail, which saved his life at the time, but he was wounded in the hands and legs, and mastered by his pur suers. Ho begged for his life, asked MaxweU’s pardon, and was carried to jail, where his wounds were dressed. A report was circulated that ho threatened to kill, one by one; all who had assaulted him, and a party of those who considered themselves threatened, proceeded to tho jail, and murdered him In bed. We do not know that Lowe deserves any Sympathy. It is evident that he intended to assassinate Maxwell, and was a blood-thirsty, dangerous man. But tho barbarity of those who fell upon him, and slaughtered him, is something fearftil. The wont feature is, no one thinks of trying to bring the murderers to justice. The mob is supreme above tho law. Tho higher law of the people of Hawesvills is murderous mob-law. Well may the press of Kentucky inquire: “Is this our chivalry ?—Cm. Com. Profitable, but Disagreeable Business.— Two men, William Whatley and Dr. P. H. Bras sel, have of late made a basinese of going into fbe counties of Georgia, examining the connty records, to find what former has given in too low an estimate of his property, and then in forming on him, getting $lO on every $lOO that the estimale was too low. They made $40,000 nut of one county—Cobb—in this way. They entered Morgan county last week, in the parsnlt of their calling, but the citizens got op a delega tion to. escort the interlopers out of town to the musio of drums, gongs, kettles, &c. Brassel left in advance of the manic, bat Whatley sub mitted to tho escort with becoming resignation. The Lynching'Case at Platte City.— The Hannibal Messenger of the 2nd baa a confirma tion of the report of the lynching of the Doys at Platie City. U gathers the intelligence from Mr. George D. Rees, of the Keokuk Post, who reached Hannibal on the Ist, direct from St. Jo. The Messenger says : There was considerable excitement through out that part of tbe State on Saturday night and Sunday morning, and serious apprehensions were enlertaiued that there ’would soon be troublous times iu Platte, as (ho free soilers of Kensfts have declared that if theso meu were hung in Platte they would burn tbo city. Toe Bloody Gaounn.—Wo had a dispathc giving an account of a fight in a court-room in H&wesvilie, Kentucky, a day or two since, in which a Mr. Low was woanded, Mr. Miller wounded, and a friend of Low’s, Mr. Aldridge, was killed, and Low then putin jail as a protec tion against the mob. The Louisville Courier of the 4th says that the mob attacked the jail, fired upon Low, putting seme 18 bails into him and killing him instantly. Low was a bloody, cool man, always coming out first best in bis shoot ing affairs, and did not know what fear was.
