Selma!' an vista Enzeums.—Besides the
public schools of this city, there are now in sue
astral program in our midst, several Mission
schools where, on Sabbath days, hildren who
have few or no advantages during thew eek are
taught in the word of God, or to repeat hymns.
The principles of justice, temperance, peace,
righteousness and of obligation to the Creator,
we imitated in lessons and conversations
adapted to the comprehension of each pupil.
These reboots are doing a wonderful work. The
indefatigable laborers In the blethodist persua
sion and more particularly, we believe, those
connected with Christ Choral; established and
still successfully sustain a mission school in the
District including Prospect and the neighbor
ing streets. The Third Presbyterian Church
have a very large minion school in the Eighth
Ward. Hundreds of children, many of them
very bright and beautiful ones, too, aro gathered
together and taught those truths, which, are the
bread of life to the soul. Of course, no parUct
tiler sectarian views are aught to be Impressed
on their youthful minds. The great faidamental
principles opon which Christian society and
civilisation rest, are affectionately commended
to the young immortals, gathered iota the schools
from the house and homes around: i The chil
dren, eau -the youngest of them, become ex
ceedingly attached to their teach ers and take
great delight in coming together on the Sabbath,
singing Sabath School hymns, repeating their
little lessons and (arcking acquaintance with
each other.
In addition to the above sehoolsOlere is in
this city an Industrial School, sultained In a
highly prosperous condition sole twenty
five or thirty benevolent baliesiierho attend it
every Thursday afternoon: There, tittle girls
are brought together, to the number of about "bO.

the points of Mr. Benjamin's recent speech. • •
Mr. Bell, of Teen., traced the rise and fall of the
filibuster spirit ;until it- culminated in the Ostend
manifesto, and ii reflected in the Cuba bill. Both
are in a form offensive to Spain. No nation would
be apt to receive kindly, an offer made to purchase
its territories when accompanied by a studied re
minder of its fallen fortunes. Mr. Re& opinion,
however, was that the Ostend manifesto and the
present proposal were framed on a perfect knowledge
that Cuba cannot be acquired but is addressed to
what Is supposed, to be the dominant traits in our
national character.
. Eight o'cl.k, l',. M.—Several motions to adjourn
were thrown out. 'The Senate chamber is filling up.
Mr. N. Kennedy, of Md., addressed the Senate,
arguing that the acquisition of Cuba is subversive
of the beet intercept of the South. ~
