buildings, affords a—copiooa supply of light
throughout the building, at a rery considerably
K'Ph sum than it could be lighted by any other
ageney. When it is remembered that all the in*
mates are up i Q the morning at 6 oxlocb, audio
the school room until 8 at night, some idoa may
bo formed of the amount of light needed.
'Ve risked the kitchens, wash-rooms, drying,
rooms, dining-rooms and girls’ sewing-rooms,
(while the latter were in the school-rooms, for
no malo visitors are permitted to see the girls 1
and were struck by tho remarkablo cleanliness
of every department The white pine floors
were clean enough to servo as tables witbont 1
cloths. The girls perform the dining-room du
nes for the boys, arranging tbs dishes and food
before the boys are admitted ; they also make
up the boys’ clothes, and perform the washing
and ironing of Iho establishment. The rougher
sex thus experience all the advantages of female
attendance, without ever suing the girls the
sexes being kept entirely separate.
