.No one will deny that this is too large a per
*engage, toasty nothing of the inconvenience to

ments of her collectors.
In the State of-Ohio the system of paying
LIMs diteeti, to the County Treasurer has been
long practised, and with the greatest success.
The money due the county is promptly paid and
the losses are insignificant. The same system
has.been adopted in our neighboring county of
Washiekton, as well as in various other counties
throughout the State, and it has been found to
work

arkibly well.
Why ould it not be adopted here .'. We can
not, in our opinion, too soon get rid of the
m
present cumbrous and expensive system. The
fire per ent. now paid to the collectors should
be allowed to the tax-payer for prompt payment,
and if hi, rans to pay promptly, odd five per
. cent. 'lto entertain no doubt whatever that
this plan would briog more money to the trees
urnannually, and it would base the additional
advantage . (no mean one, by the way,) of bring
