fort of our erratic friend, A. 0. kloGrair, of ibis
oily, to reach - the modern El Dodo, "Pike's
Peak." Mr. McG. left this pity seml two weeks
ago, to ascertain for himself the t ti of the
tumors in regard to the gold yield of e regiOn

ticket for St. Louis from Mr. Enowland, and
travels] thence to Kamm City by steamer. We
have a letter from him, dated at Kansas City,
smiting on room, in which he details his adveti 7
toren en route. We have now before us a copy
efibe Samar City Journat of Commerce, dated
Bth inst., from whioh we learn that McGrew left
that city on tho 6th inst., solitary and alone;
taking his entire outfit of blankets, provisions;
pick and shovel, gun and &munition, in a wheel
barrow: We further learn that, between Kan.!
sae City and Westport, McGrew was overtaken
by J C. McCoy, of the former place, who wee
then getting up a party for the Peak, and de. ,
aired him to wait and form one of the company.
,McGrew thanked him for his kindneset, but de
clined the proposition on the ground of great
haste, fearing that he might get caught in the '
Mow if he wailed on a company aided by oxen.

Tux Morgantown papers state that the body
which was recently found in the Monongahela
I river, below big Whitely Creek, has been iden
tified as the body of Benjamin.Gapen, son of
Lewis Gotten, formerly of Monougalia county,
Va. Mr. Garin, at the time of his disappear
ance, bad started from his native county with a
coosiderable am,ount of money in his pocket, for
his home InVisoansin. A man named Collins
has been arrested, and Is now injail in Wanes
burg, Green Co., on suspicion of being the mar
deter.
Tam 17. 8. District Court commenced its meg
aton in this city yesterday, lion. Judge Irwin
presiding. The reeognizanees of Levi Young,
charged with robbing the mail in Somerset Co ,
were forfeited, (he not appearing,) and a pro
cess for him issued. The names of the Grand end
'Traverse juror, were called over, and but few
of the former being present, no bovines, was
done. The Court adjourned till to-day, when
the cue of James Henderson, charged with mail
robbery in this county, will probably come op.

Presbytmian church building, on Peon street,
received a very severe contusion on the bead, by
a fall, on Baturday. •
The horse of Mr. Charles Clearing, of Alle
gheny city, ran off, fro Baturday, and overturned

tured, and Mr. G. received several severe
