Tun 25rn or NOCZMILB.—The subjoined let
ter was handed to us a week before the eliaion,
but in the hurry and turmoil incident to the
then approaching contest, we withheld it from
publication. We now publish it, notwithstand
ing our contemporaries hav - s — already broached
the subject, and our energetic Mayor hen taken
the necessary steps to bring the, anticipated cel
ebration before our citizens in s practical form.
Without farther comment we subjoin the letter:
Newt. Editors —lt may not Imre occurred to
your readers that Fort Do Queue is. taken on the
25th Ncventber, 1758.
Those who have been led to look at the bearings
of this event, mmally think_th at this fact in our his
tory has been too, mneh overlooked ; that the impor
tance of that old Indian war shoul d scarcely bo re
tarded second even tet-tltat of the Revolution, u
giving shape to our national destiny.
The cabled has been under convideration in .the
Presbyterian Material Satiety, at Philadelphia, and
it seemed Lobe sdcaltkcl on all hands that Pittsburgh
ought to have a entennial Celebration; it least that
it was tee good an Opportnnity to be lost.
.It was supposed that N. B. Craig and many others
would take a damp iuterest to the matter. I have re
ceived letters from Philadelphia on the subject, but
as I bays - taken up my ruidenee to the city so re
cently, I vellure to make use of your column. to lay
the subject before the chicane not doubting that they
will do whatever may be wor thy of our city, or the
merits of the question may demand.
