Masses. Enrroas i—You are' n error in relation
to some particulars of the meeting at Girty's Run, in
Duquesne Borough.
Large bills were stack up announcing • meeting
to take piece on Thursday evening, at which Thou
William was to speak. At the appointed time
quite a number of the mill hands (Bcpublieszta at
that) went to bear the great "I am" and were much
disappointed to ace a portly gentleman by name of
"Large" ride up. There wall a movement made (o
organize, but, unfortunately, they lacked the mate
rial to do so, when a Republican was called upon to
bunt up a Democrat to make. a chairman of. One
was found (there being three in the crowd) mid Mr.
Large was introduced, who went over a good dell of
ground and told some vary stale things, and some
that were not so stale, but eeemed rather too big to
swallow. After he was done and the. inmetribly
about to leave, some one thought, as the gnat Wil
liams waent there, there was a—" Williams" and
vociferously called Williams, Williams, dc-, and to
satisfy the crowd and alter.' few statement, of-the
previous ,peaks, Mr. Williams (be manager of
Dorenea works) rose and made,. abort reply to Mr. '
L.—bringing said Lary., Snelling Stephen and a
Mi. Campbell busk from the * WIZ room to a terrible
hurry, friend Mercer crying out "SL Paul offered
salvation without bonds"! "what about thehonds,"
.te. when he was asked about the reply clf candi—
dates who had been interrogated. lie said they
were sound In his breethcs pocket, and went hack to
make converts of twoliiim he had buttonloled and
treated, who finally Informed him they bad not got
their first papers, which fact "Stephen bad'at emelt."
After an expoenre of Demooratio gammon and a little
encouragement of the Republicans, .Mr. Williams
left the stand, and fearing some of their Democratic
friends might have been ladzioed to vote Republican,
Campbell hurried to the stand and in mlghly.ve
hernence implored them to stand faithful to their
piny and vote for "Williams," and left; feeling that
it was no go, and that It required another Richmond
in the field to carry the day in Duquesne borough.
RILPOBLICAN.
EIWCIILICAN Mimeos. —A first-rale meeting
was held in South Pittsburgh, at the spike
works, last evening. Mr. I. B. McVey was
chairman, and addresses were delivered by
Mesas. A. M. Brown, Seibenick and J. 11. Mil
ler. There were - nearly 200 present, who ap
pealed to be satisfied they could give a good re
p..-t at the polls to-day..
Large meetings were also held in other places
last evening. In the DiaMond, Allegheny, there
was a fins turn-out, addressed by Messrs. How
ard, Kirkpatrick, and others; at Birmingham;
addressed by Messrs. Moorbud, Faster, Smith,
"and 'ltoethett; at McKeesport, addressed by
Messrs. Marshall and Graham; inAnowden tp.,
addressed - by Ur. Qinghai:tend others; at the
Copper Works, Pitt township; in Puquesne bor
ough; at the Soda Workit,..Pawn township, ad
dressed by Mr. ?delft and others; audit Hart
man's, in Reserve township. All these meetings
were entlicutlastfo, and showed that the people
evinced an tuiwillingness to be. galled by the
false pretences of demagogues who would make
every prondeeloget office, and would after Wards.
let their interests go to the "four winds."
