the Ist butt., bringing .dates from Utah up to
the 7th of 'April. I bare been unable to obtain
my usuatfile of the Deseret NeTs, but through
private' letters from Captain Jefferson hunt and
General Rich, two leading Mormons at Salt Lake,
1 learn the following impoitent particulere :
“The Mormons have abanilonded Salt Lake
City and all the settlements to the north thereof
and are removing into the southern portions of
the territory, and nearer to the California line.
On the 10th or 12th of March, a few dayr, after
'the departure of the California mail, Brigham
Touts issued a circular calling upon all the res-
Jdents of Salt Lake City and tho towns of Og
*den,Brownsville, Box-Elder, Settler's Gerner and
Salmon River, and other settlements to the north
of Great Salt Lake City, to vacate their houses
and remove with aheir families and goods to the
southern district of the territory, there to await
further orders. In accordance with the rem
reknd the Mormons aro rapidly removing and
taking with them all they con carry of their goods
and chattles, even to the doors and windows of
their houses.

quantities of timber, fencing, etc., from above, j
indicating great destruction of property above,
• During the afternoon, Charles Street bridge was
carried away; and fears were entertained for a
time of the safety of other bridges. The market
space is flooded and cellar: are filled. The
waters are now suboitting.
Dot rtmoxr, Sunday, Juno Lt.—The damage
done by the storm and flood on Saturday, wan
very severe. Not 1,9 than twenty turn pike
bridges, on the folio and their vicinity, were
swept sway, with fencing, etc. A horse and
wagon were swept into the flood, two negro wo
men were drowned, and a white man, who was
engaged in fishing timber from the stream, was
drowned. Many stores were flooded, and 'eon
siderahle damage sustained thereby.
On the 12th inst.—yesterday—the river rose
twenty inches. Al t 1 o'clock last evening it had
gained a depth of from six inches to two feet no
the first doors of all the stores on the levee. At
dark last evening it was five feet ten incites be
