! day evening next, are now on exhibition at Mr.
\ Mellor’a Piano warerooms. During the last visit
4 of Mr. Thalberg to oat l city, he gave under his
| own hand, Iho following letter to Mr. Mellor,
] agent of the Messrs. Cbickeriogs, tho original
■i of which can be seen at Mr. Mellor’s Piano
| warerooms; thereby showing conclusively, his

1 honorable and generous acknowledgement from

Whitten to thegrnve yesterday. The City Couu
cile, in a body, the Odd Fell 'ws and Masons, ot
both of which orders he was number, the Du
quesne Greys and Duquesnt F.i.. Company, to
both which he belonged, made up a portion of
the cortege. Besides these, fuxty-five carriages
and a large concourse ofpeopb foot made op
one of the largest funeral processions we erer
remember to have seen in this city Mr. Whit
ten was a member of a largo number of public
companies about the city, as may be seen from •
the above, and besides this, his circle of relatives
andfricudawas very large. When the head or
the procession was at the cay), bridge the rear
was still in Wylie street,' the whole extending
down Penn# Liberty, Smilhfield and Fifiii s>ts. —
The body was conveyed to the cemetery and
there among the beautiful nod qniet shades of
that city of the dead, after life’s fitful fever, he
sleeps well.

bridge • Minstrels draw nightly liio largest

Mr. Foster has put Mau Anthony and a good
many other gunpowder pieces on the stage for a
few nights, to slim houses. Last night Miss
Maggie Mitchell, a lively little actress, appeared
in some saucy little pieces. She is a favorite
and will draw.

be hero next week. See their advertisement.
The great attraction of all, however, wo men
tion last. The grand eoncert to-morrow night,
with the chief of tho world in tho realm of song
and musical art, willsecure animmensohouse. It
has secured it already, for nearly all the scats
were sold yesterday, and, doubtless, before to
morrow night they will all be gone.
A Nuisahce.— -Tho Mayor and Mr. Fortune,
Secretary of the Hoard of Health, were, yester
day, engaged in examining certain ponds, into
which have drained a good deal of filth, as it
alleged, from-tho brewery of Mr. Wood. Com
plaint was lodged with Mr. Weaver as early as
Saturday last, in which it is declared that in
warm days the people of the neighborhood are
forced to keep their doors and wipdows closed
to exclude tho great stench from theso ponds.—
Wo learn that proper and efficient means will be
■adopted to have the objectionable places cleansed
• aat the health and lives of citizens threabout
may be safe from any pestiferous malaria that
might arise.
Tun father of young Tendam was before the
Mayor yesterday, and staled his intention of
having the engineer who drove the locomotive
at the time his child was killed, held to answer,
for running at a foster speed than the law al
lows, within the city limits.
A petition from a largo number of the citizens
of the Fifth Ward is prepared and will be laid
before the Councils at their next meeting, ask
ing that the Company be prohibited from bring
ing their.fcara into the city by locomotive.

I'enoa. R. R., at the point whore the Braddock’s
Field and East Liberty road crosses said rail
road, on the farm of Win. 0. llawkinn, in Wil
kins tovnahip. It is said to be the only station
between Turtle Creek and Nine-Mile Run, to and
from which there is access by a public road from
the plank road on the river, and is regarded by
the citizens of its vicinity as a great accommo
dation to the people thereabouts.
Vksteudav Afternoon, about two o'clock,
tbo dwelling house of Mr. Chas. Shaffer, about
one mile west of Wooster, 0., was discovered to
be afire. It being so windy the house was burn
ed to tho ground before the engines reached it.
In tbo afternoon of the ttamo day, about four
o'clock, there was a very heavy wind and rain
slorm passed over Wooster , it lasted hut about
liO or 30 minutes.
