the Scientific Convention recentiy in session at
Baltimore. That body ."after discussing all sons
of tangled questions, adjourned to meet next
August, in Springfield, Mass. Officers were ;
elected as follow: President, S. Alexander, of
Princeton; Vloe President, E. Hitchcook, of ,
Amherst; Secretary, Wm. Chauvcnet, of Anna
polis; Permanent Secretary, Joseph Lovering,
, of Cambridge: Treasurer, A L. Elwyn, of Phil
adelphia.

livered himself of a speech, the dignified bear

Trumpet Blast, published somewhore in the
neighborhood of Lho Lakes, thus retorteth upon
an impudent cotemporary:

Journal, of yesterdoy, devotes a long artiole
to glorification over the result of th« city elec
tion. The first brnoe of sentences tells the whole
story:
“The city election yesterday resulted in a
most utter and overwhelming defeat of the Le
oomptoniles. The whole Republican ticket was
elected by a vote.of near three hundred majority
the Largest ever given In any city election, and
ia the largest vote ever polled hero."
Tea representatives of the country banks,
pursuant to an arrangemtnt heretofore rcfsrrcd
to, are now assembled In this city to consult
nil h reference to the establishment of a Clear
ing House. Delegates are preseut from several
of the Kentucky Banks, and Indiana and Ohio
are protty fully represented. Their delibera
