Idle Threats.
Ths Somli, defeated in itaefforls.lhus fur, to
ensjave Kansas, by I bo adoption of the infamous
Lecomptoa Constitution, is resorting to I lie old
gane of threatening to" divide tie Onion. Sena
tor Iverson, of Georgia, coolly informs Ills friends
tint the State of which he Is the representative
in part, is about making arrangements to wheel
out of line. We are also treated to some multer
ings of discontent from Texas, with a howl from
Alatoma and a spasmodic groan from Mississip
pi. This is all for etfect, however, and deaerves
fcu other attention than to be heartily laughed at.
The South, even if it were able to put these
threats in exeoutlon, would not resort to such a
suicidal coarse. - Disunion is only a bng-bcar to
alarm Northern doughfaces with very weak back
bones, or, to frighten the people of the North
into voting for pro-elavory measures, and elect
ing pro-slavery Presidents and Congressman.
Senator Iverson and his associates may there
fore bottle up their wrath, anil lay
scare-crow contrivances. The day for their use
fulness has passed by. People north of the
Potomac are opening' their eyes to their true
position; and can no the
laaiatenanceof their conceded rights by idle
threats, come from what source they may
Southern demagogues -and hotspurs will hereaf
