YirASIIINGTON, NOT. 17, 1857
Messrs. Editors:—The November term of
the Courts of ilde county commenced in this
place yesterday afternoo'n at three o'clock.
Save the continuance of the argument on the
motion for a new trial in the George }larger for
gery case until Monday next, and the postpone
ment of the road business to an adjourned Court,
nothing of public interest was transacted during
the first day.
Up to eleven o'clock to-day the only matter of
importancedisposed - of was the case of the Com
monwealth vs. Jas. Bistro, (colored); indictment,
larceny 'of a lot of clothing and o isma of money.
The goods were found upon the defendant, and
no defence was set up, except a positive denial
'of guilt on the part of the prisoner. Ho was
sentenced to be taken Care of by Major Beck
ham for &period of three steara.
The case 'of the Commonwealth vs. William
Jones, Jr., indicted for the murder of Samuel
I. White, will be taken up at the opening of
Court this afternoon. I guilt endeavor to send
you a report by the next. mail.
Yours in haste,
Since receiving the above, the Washington
papers bring us the names of jurors for trying
the ease, the opening address of the District At
torney, Mr. Wilson, and the testimony of several
of the witnesses. Messrs. Slagle and Hopkins,
of this city, are counsel for the defence.—[Ens.

Ftoun Lssoure.—They taro a "flour league"
at. Hollidaysburg, and on Saturday lurk sent
an order to Pittsburgh for 24 barrels Extra Fam
ily, which is to cost $5,04 delivered to the sub
scribere. 'This, of course, includes the freight,
which is about 87 oents. The same quality of
flour retails here at $7 per barrel, and the freight
thereon from "Pittsburgh, its we learn frbm the
agent, is 75 cents, so that the entire c)st of a
-barrel of Pour purchased at Pittsburgh deliver
ed at the doors of subscribers in this city would
be sC—a using of just $1 to consumers. This
calculation I made from the most-reliable data,

of Merin abed what Fester and others are
going to do. One story is, that the difficulties
between Messrs. Foster and Simpson are settled,
or about to be; another that Mr. Roberts is
going to lease the, building; another, and per
haps the most likely to be true that, Masonic
Hall is to be taken by Mr. F. and used for the
atrical purposes, and yet another, that a joint
stock companyitre about to erect a spacious and
elegant Temple to Thesphs, on a sightly spot;in
the city. Gossips oxen fix the spot to be used
for this purpose—a portion of the Oregon lot,
