Ctrs on-Prrrsuronon,-
Before me, an;Alderman, in' nd for said City,
personally 'mine Bliskney, of Allegheny
City, who,heing.tlulyaworn, doth depose and
say that he, has been book-keeper of the Mer-
Mints k Msinifacturers' Bank since the year
1860; that daring the years 185 n and 1857
.s.•
James O'Connor, for the firm of O'Connor, Bro.
Qt Co., overdrew their account to a large amount;
that this:was done by carrying over false. bal
ances on the Ledger it pencil mark; that depo
nent begged of James O'Connor repeatedly to
—make his .acconnt , -correct, which he, solemnly
promised :to do; that deponent represented to
him thkireat injury in would bring upon his
reputation, and that deponent was rendered un
happy, Mid - could not sleep on account of these
over-drafts. Deponent pointed out the law to
James O'Connor, and told him that the offence
he was etnntitting . inight lead some of them to
the Penitt .
He commenced• overdrawing their account
,
~bout the beginning of February, 1856, and car
, . ried it Otemitil about a month ago--and it was
t still over-drawn to a large amount when I left
the Bank,
The knowledge of these facts was confined
entirely to 'myself and James O'Connor. None
of the °thaws of the Bank knew anything about
it. The 'President of the Bank, Thomas Scott,
frequentky asked me how CYConnor, Bro. & Co.'s
1. account stood, and - I. pointed out to-him the bal
-1 antes in lead pencil, which appeared to be in
favor of said firm. I never informed Mr. Scott
of' the deception that was practised in carrying
ever falsoltalances. Toldr_Denny, the Cashier,
I gave the fame answers, and he was- also de
oelred, as to the true state of O'Connor, Bro. 1
Co.'s account— -
Mr. Scott frequently inquired as to other ac ,
counts, and I sever gave him incorrect informa
tion with regard to "them. The only instance in
1 whioh I knowingly deceived him was relative to
O'Connor, Bro. & Co.'s account.
Deponent will add that Mr. Scott's instruc
i tions were. positive, prohibiting any person or
liaisons from over-drawing their accounts.
W. Stammer.

The single fact communicated by the present
English mail, that the London and Liverpool
markets for money were hot just awakened to
the serious nature of the panic in the United
States, seems to-day to have cast an extraordi

The money market is called a shade or two
racier. with, however, fewer transactions among
the note brokers. • There is less disposition tlo
