fer of a large amount of bullion to the Philadelphia
mint, to be seined into . small pieces, to meet the
pressing demands of the business community for

Monetary affairs continue quiet, and there is no
excitement, though there is considerable oppression

The Banking houses are all'paying specie.
Waesraaroa CRT, September 30.—Letters reseis
, ed to-day from Fort Kearney dated September 3d,
state that two companies of troops had arrived there
! that day on their way to Salt Lake, and that the
! fifth and tenth regiments of Infantry had reached
! Fort Laramie.
Col. Hoffman had seized Eve hundredlegs of pow
der in a Mormon train.
Rimming Californians informed the writer of the
letterthat the Mormons were making preparations
for ft 'and did not conceal their hostile move
me
der Kimball, in his sermon In the tabernacle at
Salt Lake, said he could, with his wires, whip the
2500 troops. lie further remarked, that the provi
eons for the array would reach the volley, but the
troops would norm enter Salt Lake City.
The Treasury Department is still engaged in do
ing all that it can in a legitimate way to relieve. the
money pressure. Applications for the redemption of
a large amount of C. S. stocks are steadily on the
increase.
William Pitt Platt has been appointed Postmaster
at Plattrbstrg, New York, to place of Mora.. re
sigoed.
The whole number of warrants issued from the
Pension Office during September, ander the Bounty
Land Act of March, 1855, was 1620, to satisfy which
nearly 245,000 acres are necessary. The names of
55,090 pensioners for revolutionary services bare
been placed on the rolls since March, 1818. bet on
the 30th of June last only 346 of this number wore
reported living.
The administration has not received any definite
information from Wm. Cary Jones relative to politi
cal affairs in Nicaragua, while certain parties are
strongly urging .the .reeognition by the President of
the Minizter from that country.. Riv . M`interests are
endeavoring to prevent it.
The Minister from Costa Rica claims that his gov
ernment has something to say about the transit
route, but it is believed that the administration will
not respect thaLassumption.
Buntmearrc, N. J., Sept- 90.—The Burlington
Barichas not failed, being abundantly able to pay
all its circulation and deposi's ; but being influenced
by the action of the Philadelphia Banks, hu par-
Bally auspended. It continues to pay out small
moms in coin.
The Mechanics' Bank at Burlington, and other
banks in Burlington county, pureie the same course.
We are aseured they are entirely sound, and will
resume specie payment, as soon as the Philadelphia
Banks resume, and at an earlier day if !inch a course
is deamcd prudent-
The notes of the Burlington Bank are redeemed
in Philadelphia, and the notes of the Mechanics'
Bank at the Bank of North America, Hartford, Ct.
The banks of this city have no thought of suspend
ing; they are satisfied that the crisis has passed.
New YORK, Sept. SO.—A dispatch from the quo,
antine states that the 'Webster waited in vain at
Havana, for three dap, for the arrival of the Star of
the Wmt. It is feared she is lost.
The steamer Peoria sailed at noon for Liverpool.
She carries no specie.
The firm of Hotoling & Co. have suspended.
New Tone, Sept. 30.—There is much better feel
ing to-day in ail kinds of business, and the panic is
considered over. No failures are reported. There
are rumors that the steamer Tennessee, which leaves
here to-day for Now Orleans, is connected with an
other fillibuster expedition for Nicaragua
DrsnotT, Sept. 30.—The Peninsular Bank of this
city has been enjoined by Attorney General Iloward.
on account of its refusal to surrender to the State
Treurver its circulating hills to the amount of the
deficiencies between the present caterer its stock se
curities and that of its circulating notes, as required
by Ito chivies. It is said that the Bank has abund
ant means to pay its debts.
Cotowsua, Sept 30.—The Board of Control of the
State Bank of Ohio. ate mooting held bore to-day,
unanimously adopted the following resolution.
