'; . .,_.'peri• Oasrrs.—l was sorry to read in Bat
..wedaY's Chronicle an article in relation to the
•
management of the Comity Fair which totally
• nderepttants the facts.
: . The writer says that "while the attendance
.was unusually large the display was contempt
ible." That the manufacturers were , willing
"nay anxious lb make a display of their wares,"
but were kept from doing so by the Boartre being
in the habit of appointing dry goods clerks as
judges of machinery,-and putting on farmers to
criticise and dehide upon the merits of a paint
ing.-r The whole article is written as if every
g ct.
man urer in the city would have made a
trem dons display at the fair Bit had not been
fort old fpgY Board from which they could
e tno justice and therefore rather than
' lea their wara to the tender mercies of dry
- clerks and old farmers, they wisely kept
the' . at home', Now what arc the facts in
the ease. Tsars ago, I' forget how long, the
Agricultural S ociety had its constitution
a
amended so to admit manufacturers and
mechanics into its Board. A special duly of
sack - , members ' was to see that proper persons
were appointed as judges in the mechanical
department, and no judge for years has been ap
pointed .to that department without at least
the assent of those members—and further, the
manufacturers a nd mechanics were invited by
resolutions of t lt Board to Rosin themselves into
a
0 mechanical °elation, to exhibit upon the
g.rodnds under t
heir own superintendents, and
awards decided y judges of their own appoint
ing, and yet with such facts stating it in the
face' the Chronicte hides them away to get a dig
alike managers! It would have been more be
coming, I think., in that paper' to have informed
thoso antiotislai exhibit that they had the whole
malaria their own hands, as to judges, super-
Inlet:dine° ends arrangements, than to take the
aurae it has. think I can guess tche the ar
ticle was written' but will let it pass. Our pop •
citation area haid working people. The Fair
has been to them a grand holiday to which they
could take their wives and their little ones,. and
enjoy et day's innocent amusement; and if the
manufacturers, ;through pride or pout, refused
to lead their aid to add to the pleasure and grat
illation of •the public, the managers could not
help - ., it. . They' were, however, proud of the
..uniatrally" large attendance at the Fair, and
the unsurpassed good behavior with which such
an Initnense crowd conducted itself.
As it, regards the implied charge of unjust
partiality on the part of the Board to the Ga
zette, it is of a Plede with the rest of the article
in Tie Chronicle, hut as you have already an
swered that in your columns, it is sufficient to
hare alluded to it. Mammies..

LET there be no secrets in Medicine, or rather no
