motion the following gentlemen were appointed a
Committee to draft resolutions Messrs. J. M. Kirk
patrick. Prows:Sad, Hershfield, Backeferr and
Stramburger.
Those gentlemen, in due time, submitted the fol
lowing resolutions :

into between the two great powers of Switzerland
and tho United States, relating to national inter
course with the Republic of Switzerland, Tut 'La.'s,
as a people, are made the subject of invidioue dis
tinctions and obnoxious discrimination in eo far that
they are especially and particularly excluded from

fords no pretext for diplomatic intercourse and ar

land shall be admitted and treated upon a footing of
reciprocal equality in the two countries where such
admiation and treatment chair not eakliiet with the

There is one "cantonal provision" in force which
forbids Jews from entering the country, from sojourn
ing temporarily, domicilidting or establishing them
selves permanently.

We learn from the Tribune that "a gentleman
from Pittsburgh had an interview with Bill
Jones, one day last week. He protests his in
nocence of the murder of White; lays he was
thirty miles distant from the scene of the mur
der at the time it took place, and that he can
prove the fact by witnesses; that Fife ought to
e_iotterste him, as he well knows that he Junes)
is innocent. He- sent his cemplimenti to the
murderers in the Pittsburgh jail, and expressed
his sorrow at the probability of not being pres
,ent4o witness their execution, as he would like
much to see them hung! He appears perfectly
stoical and not at all apprehensive that the crime
of which he stands charged will be proved against
him.+•

Tan Washington Commonrea:lh says a boy
named Scott, near Canonsburg, was bitten, on
Friday last, by a large black spider, in the
neck. ln a few hours the wound was greatly
inflamed, and the boy endured the most exeru
tilting agonies. Physicians were called in, and
at'our latest advices but little hopes were enter
tained of his recovery.
The same paper says that the trial of Jones
will probably come on at the ensuing term of
Court, to be held on the fourth Monday of the
present month. We learn that It A. liteents,
Esq. has been retained by the Commissioners,
as assistant counsel, on the part of the Com
monwealth.

to wit: Wisconsin mid its resources, with Lake Su
perior, its ComMerce, Navigation, etc., giving a Pa.-
tienlar account of the Lake, its climate, mine., towns,
etc.. with a tour up the 3fississippi to St. Paul, nod
a canoe voyage up the St. Croix and Brute river, to
Lake Slimier. The State of Wisconsin is fully de
scribed, and its resources, with • snap of the post
office., constitution, railroads, mates. distances, he.
The book is prettily hound and contains 310 page..
The book is writtep by J. S. Ritchie and contains
an immense &omit of praotical information. The
author has had the politeness to send us, besidea Rio
book, a very convenient map of the whole State of
Wisconsin, with a full, and we have no doubt a re
liable map of that, to us, terra incognito, the South
sheer, from Pictured Rocks to Fond Lac.
A similar map, we may add, forms a part of this
book. We are sure that this work will find a ready
sale in this city where so many intercom connected
with Lake Superior centre.
Besides this map there is also another of exceed
ing neat execution, giving upon k large scale the
map of the territory lying between 44 and 49 degree,
N. let., which gives nfell and complete idea of Lake
Superior and all its surroundings.
This book is published in Chicago by Keen A Lee,
and in Philadelphia as before mentioned.

ward taking the cane up to the Supreme Court. At
that time. &ewe then stated, the record. which Is.try
voluminous was not ready and the matter ws,...**-
pond man yesterday, when Mr. Rowley, Clerk 61
Court of Qnartar Sessions, had completed it. Comb
set made application at that time, asking that a writ
of error might issue and Judge Lowrie signified his
willingness to examine the record which no we have
aboveltated, is now ready. Before what session of
the Supreme Court it may coma, wo of course are
not prepared to say. We presume that if the writ
be granted it might go before the session in the East
ern part of the State or come on here in October.—
If this effort shall fail, the hat ground disappears

Safest way now is to put their trust in God, who can
have mercy and grant pardon and peace even to
them, though under the condemnation of all laws

not know, until yesterday, that there were any
'Mormons in this part of the world; but it seems
from the . proceedings we publish to-day, that
they have an organization at West Elizabeth,'
and that they keep up the machinery of the
church in regular order. The gentlcrann who
furnished us with the proceedings, assures us
that this church is not connected, in any way.
with the organization in Utah; but the religious
; tenets appear to be the same. We presume, al
, though we did not take the liberty of inquiring,

and creed of their sect.
