certain that he will throw no obstacles in 'i tirc
way of Emancipation; and the fact that he was
supported by the Emancipationists, and that
every effort was made to rouse the slaveholding
and pro-slaery feeling against him, and that in
die face of this he has been elected, proves that
the spell of pro-slavery influence in that State
has been broken, and that the reign of nullified
*-Hon and terrorism is at an end. il....eiurtn - n
Will be regared as a fined fact that Missouri is ,
to be a free State; and that being the case, it
will soon be overrun with a free population be
fore-whom slavery will speedily -vanish.
Another fact of importance is to be noted. In
.Tennessee,Kentucky, North Carolina and Ala
bama the "American” party assumed ultra pro
slavery ground, looking to that as the road to
success, and the result is that the party there is
wiped out—obliterated, the slaveholders prefer
ring to trust to the dtuilieratic party for their
security; while in Jl;isSouri, an "American" who
- offered himself as a candidate en a liberal plat
ford', welcoming Emancipation as one of the in
evitabllities of the future, is triumphantly elect
ed Governor, in spite of the pro-slavery clamor
raised against him. This is a political fact
worthy of being pondered by those who are in
sensible to everything but the stern lessons of
experience.
SZNISIBLZ MID 80V .SD.—After 30 much as has

after so much that is base, tyranical and devilish
having been christened with the name democ

"dragoons," frpular sovereignty," it is refresh
ing to find even a portion of old Virginia, the
mother of so much that is good waking up to
her true interest," clothed and in her right mind.
Last year Underwood was drivel' out; this year
Thayer is invited to come with free labor and
settle; last year we stood agliiet at of
horror and outrage in Missouri which sickened
us: this year we find that State putt.og her
giant heel upon the monster of "modern democ
racy" and electing emancipationists to her
bench and her executive chair.
The press, while it reflects also leads public
sentiment, and we are rejoiced , to see such no
tices of Thayer's movement as the following
from the Wheeling Intellignacer which publishes
the pmeeedings of the meeting at Guyruidotte,
and infers from the resolution that the people of
Goyandotte are a sound, common-sensed popu
lation, who knosr; and knowing dare to say,
what thoy think makes not only for their imme
diate interests, but that of the whole state, and
especially for Western Virginia.
"The footle that the people of that region of corm

nt-NOYINATION OF 00V. COMM.—The Repub

nominated Gov. Chase for re-election—a high
compliment and well deserved. Gov. Chase is
a model Governor, one of the foremost men of
this nation and an incorruptible statesmen.
Ohio owes it to herself to elect him by a rousing
majority, and so vindicate her devotion to the
cause of Freedom. We have no doubt she
will do it.
