; ST. PALL, July 29.--Col. Nobles. Superin
tendent ofthe Wagon Road. South Pass, is now
in thin city. The expediton it at present MU
',ended, the encampment west of the Big Sioux
haying been broken up on the ll3th, on account
of their further progress being vitilently oppo
sed by the Yankton Indians. They retreated
to Big Wood, 80 miles west of Fart Ridgely.
The objection made by the Yanktons was that
Col, Noble's party was crossing their country,
and would frighten away the buffalo which are
their sole means of itubsistence. Col. Noble,
before leasing the Indians, appoint, I the
of August to hold a council for the purpose of
treating with them as to the right orally across
that country. Should the negotiations foil. it
is the intention of Col. Noble to proceed with
the duties assigned him in despite of hostilities.
