at ten o'clock, Judge Williams on the bench. G..
P. Hamilton, Esq. appeared for the father and Judg,
Shaler for the grandfather. The bill of tie peti

child, and hod retained it since, refusing to yield it to

particulars. The inquest was held by Coroner.

was taken incharge by the :Stewart of the Poor
House and interred in the Poor llouse burying
ground. Intelligence of the occurrence, how

out; on Tuesday morning they repaired to the
Poor House, had his remains taken up, and re
moved to BelPs Mills and there interred. The
second Postmortem examination, made at this

Ranarax., July 30.—The steamer Europa
arrived last evening with Liverpool dates to the
18th.
The sales of cotton for the week were 93,000
bales, including 10,000 to speculators and 3000
to exporters; middlings have advanced 1-101;
Orleans fair 8 0-8.
In the House of Commons, Mr. Roebuck of
fered resolutions condemnatory of the Persian
war, and supported his motion in a speech of
much bitterness. He accused Lord Palmerston
of having, by denuding India of troops for the
Persian war, brought abeut the present state of
affairs in India. A warm debate ensued. . Roe
buck had many supporters, who declined, how
ever, to vote for the resolutions.
Lord Palmerston censured Roebuck's. mo
tives and reviewed the course of the negotia
tions with Persia, claiming credit rather than
censure for the concessions the government had
made to facilitate the restoration of peace. lie
denied that there was any connection between
the Persian war and the Indian mutiny. The
resolutions were lost by 3A against 342.
In the House of Lords on Friday, Lord Broug
!tom brought forward a motion for au address to
the Queen to discountenance all measures tend
ing to promote the slave-trade and made a pow-
Frful speech. Lord Clarendon endorsed Brong
hani's statements, saying that if it was turned
out, the slave trade would be revived. The
government did not hesitate to use the power
vested in it to stop it. The address was agreed to.
The Commons voted for half a million on ac
count of the Persian war, after u spit). debate.
Lord Russell asked but failed to get Bovern
meet to assign a day for the consideration of the
new bill he proposed to introduce for the admis
sion of the Jews into Parliament. lie then asked
leave to bring in a bill on the subject, hut, otter
a noisy debate, the House adjourned without
action.
The test. of the submarine cable are very sat
isfactory at Cork, whence vessels sail about the
first of August. An experiment will be nutfle
through the entire cable. Insurance has been
effected on the safe laying of the cable at rates
ranging from ten per cent. upwards, but many
of the stockholders are sanguine enough to pre
fer running their own risks.

tillery by the most rapid conveyance at hand,
and in addition to the troops already mentioned,
