    • ' Tug Coups Talarra.—The Canada Tinitle
is the most noxious of all the weeds which are
permitted to infest, the Lands of farkeers. We
hay s l a tely noticed the growth: of this thistle
about the Cumberland - Valley Rail Road Depot,
as well as in numerous other Paces in-that por
tion of they lawn. We do not know whether
Airmers are aware of Its nature. If they tire s
we think that they will not fail to make suitable
Warts to exterminate it before it spreads any
- -farther. There Ire various weeds in this sec
lion of the State which are justly dreaded by
farmers, but there is none, of which we know,
that is half as lunch annoyance to the farmer,
or injury to Is term; as this.
The peculiarities of this weed are, first, that
It sends Its roots to a great depth into the
ground and at: 01'07 joint it sprouts, so that
however much it may be cut and torn by the
plow, it still grows, sad just as often as it is cut
it is multiplied. If the sod is turned upside
down, It immediately sprouts from the joints
nearest the ends turned up. On these accounts
it is very difficult to exterminate it.
It also spreads very rapidly, from the great
quantity of seed which it bears, and which are
carried to a great distance by the wind, and, we
presume, also by birds.
When once it takes possession of the ground,
It monopolises it almost entirely, so that little
else can grow where it is. In grain fields this
weed is the greatest possible nuisance, as it
renders it almost impossible to bind it, or handle
it in other ways. Farmers would act wisely by
using the utmost care anti effort to exterminate
it before it takes possession of their fields: We
lave seen sufficient 'of the habits of this weed
is other portions f ef the &nutty, to enable us to
speak knowingly respecting it, and if its spread
-is not checked, many in this locality will soon
learn its habits to, their sorrow, when it will be
- very difficult tO remedy it.
