"The Cily,cf Pittiburgh has failed to make due
provision for the interest on a portion of her public
debt Wald to certain railway projects, which were
expected to meet thin charge, but could not, owing
to their incomplete condition. The circomatance of

casioned much surprise here and in Philadelphia,
and cannot very well be explained or apologized for

the question, are requested to confer with Messrs.

.Threm members of the Cabinetexpress regret that
Governor Walker throws his official weight Into the
seals of ak subadsilon of the prtapective Constitution
of Kansas to a vote of the people. Gen. Cass, on
the other hand, regards such submission as unavoid

Walker will be gently adnionistuoi, but not repu

The Southern elamorers against Walker's course
will probably organise an independent opposition,
for which this Kansas matter is rather a pretext than
&reason."
New York Correspondence
- Editors Gazette: The church-bells at Albany
have scarcely ceased tolling their solemn dirge
over the funeral of Ex-Governor Marcy, who
died on the 4th of July, as also did three of our
presidents. The city was thronged with stran
gers, among others of note who were there to
p 4 their last sad tribute of respect, were ex-
Presidents Pierce and Van Buren. The body
lay in state at the capitol, the interior and ex
terior of which was heavily draped with moors •
ing. Probably never before had Albany witnessed
• funeral pageant so immense and so grand.
Gov. Marcy will not soon be forgotten. Some
of his state papers are remarkable both for their
great power as well as the importance of the
subjects treated.
Lexington and Ashland have just witnessed a
similar pageant only more imposing, it was that
of laying the corner-stone of the great Cloy
Monument in the grounds of their beautiful
Cemetery. There were gathered there a loitg roll
of the brightest and best names of the State,
who crowded eagerly to -thy-honor to Kentucky's
noblest and best son.
Since the terrible riot of th e 4th and sth inst.,
our city has been comparatively quiet, netwith
standing this it was deemed necessary to have
the military on guard three or four days. A
portion of the fire works intended to be sent off
last night at the "Fire Points"—the locality of
the late riots—were taken elsewhere. It was
feared a crowd would renew the trouble among
the " Dead Rabbit" Club and the Bowery Boys.
However the postponed fire works were finally
sent off last night from the various squares.—
The display was unusually good ; so that an
hundred thousand of our population were amused
for an hour at least at the expense of the city.
There were probably forty thousand at one po!nt.
The Park, as it was wascrowded from Broadway
across to French's HoteL At conclusion, the liv
ing tide swept up Broadway so dense that for
nearly twenty minutes it completely obstructed
the emnibusses.
The Superior Court hero has just decid
ed in favor of giving up the books, papers, So..
of the Street Commissioner to D. D. Conover who
was legally appointed by the Governor, so that
Mayor Wood's appointee Chas. Devlin will have
to "walk the plank" sooner or later. Alderman
Wilson—formerly a shoulder hitter—now a high
priest in the Wood ranks, (which by the by is
haughty arc now asking most humbly, for sit
thining out rapidly of late,) and they who were 'so
nations for some of the old police and arc say iag to
the new Commissioners that they will give up
the station houses, &.e. So reply has yet been
made, to they will hardly consent to these terms
as they will be delivered up without any such
promises, and yet there may be trouble ere it
is all accomplished.
Our town is Sited with strangers en route for
the sea-side, the various wateringplaces and for
Europe. We have very hot weather now, linens
and leghorns are at a decided premium.

patient effectually exposed his utter ignorance
of anatomy and the littleald the spirits afforded
him in making up the deficiency. After some
further conversation the medium was requested
to ask Dr. —, one of the medical %hosts in
consultation, what he thought of the "hour
glass contraction "—a very dangerous condition
sometimes induced after child-birth—but not,
by its name, suggesting to an unprofessional
person an idea of its real character. The me
dium pondered some time upon the question, in
order apparently .to make sure of the departed
doctor's present opinion, and then said, "Dr.
thinks hour-glass contraction a very good
thing, and should certainly recommend It."
