The Nominating County Convention
On Wednesday, the 24th inst.. the County
Convention for nominating a ticket to he sup
ported by the opponents of the national admin
istration, will be held. The primary meetings
for electing delegates to the Convention will be
held on Saturday next, the 2 thh " the
hours named in the call, which will be found in
another column.
our country readers will therefore permit
to direct their attention to this Convention, and
to urge them to attend theprimary meetings.
We have a Governor to elect this fall, and it is
of the utmost importance that Allegheny should
a
give as large a majority as she did last fall. To
accomplish this will require the exercise of pru
aetwm and discretion in - the nomination of n
county ticket. The Convention must not permit
nay jealousies or feelings to grow out of its no
tion. Its mission is 'to present to the party a
strong ticket, composed of good and unexcep
tionable men, upon whom the entire party can
heartily unite, and to take such measures as will
ensure, not only its triumphant election, but the
rally of such a majority-for the State ticket as
will leave our friends elsewhere no right to coin.
plain.
Some peculiar circumstances will surround
thiwConvention, and it will stand its members
in need to bring to their tank all the wisdom and
circumspection they can muster. Let theM but
come to it in the proper spirit andall will be well.
The election this fall is one of the most in,
port•nt we have had for sonic time. We have
to elect a Treasurer, Register, Recorder, Clerk
of the Courts, Commissioner ; Auditor, Associate
Judge, and five members of the Legislature.—
Nearly all-the county offices are to be filled. In
a county so strongly Republican as this, all these
county offices should be filled by Republicans.
We will not Permit ourselves to doubt that a re
sult on desirable will lie attained; but no an
essential aid to it we appeal to the members of
the party everywhere to give their personal at
tention to the preliminaries necessary to the for
mation of the county ticket.
A New Ontm:s.—We have already made nn
extract or two from a new paper of The Rieh..
mond Enyisirer and The Sokith school, recently
established in the city of Philadelphia. We find
on another examination of it a good many more
items similar to these which follow:

We owe it to the bounty 'of Providence that
