ITun Monnoxs.—The position of these people
politically, is so anomalous, so entirely at va
riance with all our established views as formed
and fashioned by our education under the
influences of Christianity, that it is no won
der the press and the people of the Union are
beginning to look about them and to enquire
what shall the government do in this crisis ?
They have at length driven from the Territory
the United States officers of the Gentile faith,
embracing David B. Burr, Surveyor General;
Judge Styles, the only Federal Judge who re
mained in the Territory; Peter E. Dotson, United
States Marshal; Mr. Morrell. the Post Master at
Great Salt Lake: and T. S. Williams, Esq., te

party io about a hundred persons.
We du not-tronder that the party of "Squatter
Sovereignty" begins to t remlile end give way be
fore the legitimate conclusions and to make wry
faces at the bitter fruits of their tlnngerous and
new-tangled dogmas. Every whim, the organs
of “Democracy" begin to look around for some
means of escape from a position that will anon
grow as hot as the furnace in which the three
Israelites wore tried.' Whether they, like the
three, will come forth unisinged! that's the
question.
We are glad to find one of the Democratic
organs of Western Pennsylvania—to wit: the
Pittsburgh Post, making such declarations ns
the following in an editorial article in its issue
of Saturday last: •
It will not b. Intefiiry to resort to the cruel and
infamous expedient of a general charge of treason
agalust the Mormon community, in order to reduce
them to obodienerto the laws and authority of the
United States. They are at present acting in con
formity to the policy of the Democratie party, but it
will not be difficult to teach them that this policy, as
well as their own htSlhen and immoral practicerjs
wholly at variance with the common law and the
Christian religion. 1

That le just what we say and we are glad to find
oursilrei agreeing with the Post id this matter
