quiet. The Times' city article of Friday even•
tog says the fatale in the morning opened with
great eteadiness, but subsequently receded near
ly from which there was only • partial re.
sorry. In the early part of the day the rate
for advances on government securities was 7 per
etnt.,at which but small transactions were effect
ed. It then went to 8 per cent., at which • large
sum was lent on controls. In the discount mar
ket and at the Bank of England, there was
increased aotivity. Foreign securities were firm.
The French 8 percents. closed at Paris to.day,
69 tram 55 centimes.
The returns of the Bank of France were Retie
factory.

the rumor of the intended resignation of Lord

The Vanderbilt arrived out on the 15th inst.,
making a trip of ten days.
Liverpool Market --Cotton: The *deices re
ceived from America mind an advance of +a,
but the market rubeequently receded. The Bro
ken' Circular states that the cotton market was
steady; the sales of the week amounted to 40,
000 bales, including 7000 bales to ;speculators
and 6500 bales for export. The quotations on
the Friday afternoon previous to the sailing of
the Arabia were generally unchanged, except
for fair Bowed and Mobiles, which were quoted
at an advance of id. The following quotations
errs reported:—fair upland fii; middling upland
71; fair Orleans 81; middling Orleans 7 18 18.
The stook of Patton is port was 606,000 bales,
of which 87,000 were American.
Breadstuffs.—Messrs. Richardson, Spence &
Co. report the Breadstuff. market generally as
haring.cootinued quiet.

Nair Year, May 28 —The ,termer Minnie
arrived at 4 o'clock. P. M., with 800 passengers
and $1,780,000 treasure. She left Aspinwall on
the evening of the 10th. Seem' Helattiogsen
and CoL Titus are among the passengers. She
connected with the Golden Gate whion brought
down nearly two and a quarter milllons io
