'Mum - Immo; April 28.—The War Department
hue completed the arrangements for a wagon
road from Fort Defiance to Niagara River. Ed
ward F. Beale, Superintendent; G. H. Heap,
Aceittant; James B. Hambletsn, Physician, and
Lieut. Charles E. Tharbarn have been despatch
ed from the Navy to accompany the Expedition
for Geological surreys.
Twenty five camels and dromedaries are to be
employed, our object being to test their endur
ance and adaptability to the climate .
The party will consist of about fifty ticked
men, provided with necessary implements to
break the road through, and will readervoos at
New Orleans on the 20th of May. All parties
for the different sections of the road nre now
organized, with instructions to commence oper
ations 111 the earliest practicable period. It is
thought the work will be finished by next De
cember.
CIIICAO3, April 29.—The St. Paul Pioneer of
the 18th, contains a letter from Gen. Shields, at
Faribault, dated the 15th, which pointddly cot
tradiats the moors of the Indian murder at
Tilarkato. Reliable information from Blue Earth
oounty state there is not thy elightest founda
tion for the absurd reports. The letter concludes
by'stating that there is neither hostilities nor
any sign of hostility among the Indian tribes of
the territory. The &Eumenides:l of the 20th con
firms the above.

noon, and all the meat was immediately in a
blaze, but the engines arrived immediately and
