Mora BloodsAed.--We learn from the officers
of the Leoompte, that, on Thursday last, Capt.
G. M. Branner, late of the stet boat Belle
Gates, and Mr. Vercher, his oversee, were shot
while riding In front of .1. W. Bro n'e
Hon, on Red river, about twenty miles above
Compte. Mr. Tereher died in a few minutes.
Capt. Branner received two buckshot in his left
eye, and was very low when the boat passed, but
his physicians entertained hopes of his recovery.
We understand that a difficulty had occurred a
few days previous between Capt. Branner end
Mr. Brown, during which the latter was shot
by the former.

My D:ar You 'Oohed me to drop you a

thing worth recording. There 11 no place where
an observing man may cot find something of

visited there is much of novelty find interest,
whioh people would oroea the Ocean in vain to

I detor.nined to try the sea from Boston to

night when we left the former city, and as we
opened upon the gloomy waete of waters and
the "hungry .mosnings of the homeless aim"

thing more perfectly mysterionslutd sublime.
Orer the deck of the vessel shone the brilliant
flashes from the Boston light as we passed oat
of the harbor: the white waves fled like sheeted
ghosts into the darkneas, and the content roar
of rising and receding billows canned in me
sensations snob as I never felt before; why
should I t It was my first venture upon the
domain of Neptune. As you leave Bolton har
bor there are reefs of ricks lying moms two or
three miles from the land which are covered at
high water and at low water appear above the
surface in shapes which have given them the
cools of the “Orsves." As we passed them they
were pointed oat to me: the billows threw them
selves in 'constant wreathe of foam upon these
tenantless graves; and yet they have been graves
to many a poor fellow. These white spots con
stantly slolftlog in the general darkness glee a
peculiarly wild weird aspect to the ocean at
night.

from age to age. Beetling oliffi, against whlob the
waves forever dash, long arms of quiet sea almost
landlocked tied stretahihg far in among Mlle
covered wlth'primeval forests, bare and splint

roaring waves, these thinge are all new to me
and reproduce in my mind the pictures ofttald

Bootland or Ireland, where the stories of bird
catchers are so admirably toll, veotoreome fel

and swinging about In the wind with the hungry
sea raging for its prey many many feet below.
