Romig, on his way to Ohio in charge of the
Sheriff of :Fairfield centitr,r in that State, was
lodged for a time : in cur jail yeeterdey. Ile in
charged with poisoning a man named Ely, re
siding in Beosel, In the above county, and the wife
or the murdered man, it is alleged, was hie ac
complice in the dark transaction.
Romig is a native of this State, and resided
in Indiana for 'several years. A short time
sines La Settled in Ohio and followed the busi
ness of clerk at times, and at other times
that of peddler. •It was while in this State that
his intimaoy with Mrs. Katy is alleged to base
begun; audit is maintained that it continued till
laettChilattnas, when weary of Mr. Katy's proe•
once, they poisoned him and thus put him out of
the way: - • -
Romig left tsbortly after the commission of
the murder, and remained in the neighbohood of
Reading until hie arrest, about a week ago, by
the Sheriff of Berke county. Mrs. Italy is in
prison for (ho murder, and will be tried at the
