Messrs. Campbell &Tollook eonfine themselves
principally to laver leaf - prcceta
which results in a brilliant gold color, durable es

sponge and nap. "Tide Is one of its great ad-1
vantage; Gold-leaf tarnishes' when vrashed,
and losee• nearly all its brilliancy.-- Another
great'adrantage.patteessed by the sliver-leaf over
the Is finit e cheapness. • For instance, the
wholesale price of silver-leaf moulding, one inch
wide, is five cents per foot; the gold-leaf mould
ing tWelve and a half cents. This groat dispar
ity .in cost decides - the question of popularity,
and the sulver-leaf moulding is now in great de

Tho proms of tuanufaeture is comparatively
owing to the. ingenious machinery which
has recently been invented. ' We spent a- abort
time at the frame shop, corner of Shark's/id
Pleat streets, yesterday, and caw the manner In
which it operates. The lumber, to brought from
the yaideto the shop in' rough state. Several
circular saws do the ',raining of the bomber into
etrips'of the required width, do. These etrips
Ire planed in the planing machine, and are then
ready for the mouldiog machine. This machine
le of very ingenious construction. It oecupien
but very little space, yet by one' and the same
operation the strip Is moulded to any required
pattern, and ,the rabbit out out, and it is ready
for the, gilding room. The bed of the plane can
be increased to different Weep. The strip is
placed upon the end'of tho bed; two rollers feed
itintathe mouldisg knives, andpush it through.
There ere fear rriSabiltig kaillit or bits ;used at
one time, and they revolve very fast. These
bile are all - candela the :east, and are very ex
pensive. Of oonme there are leer of them to
each of the many patterns of moulding. The
machine can mould 10,000 feet a day;
I The etrlps; which are from eight to ferule=
feat long, are thin taken to the Wiling room
on Wood etreet, where they go through'several
proceseas They are first coated with whiting
with brushes, and ore then forced through the
.. smoethlng box," which dbitributes the whiting
evenly upon all parts. They are then dried, and
gold-shed.
In plain moulding the next step is tho gilding.
A. number.of persons are engaged in laying on
the silver leaf. The operation is complete with
therappllcation eta peculiar varnish whioh gives
the brilliant gold hoe, and the moulding is then
ready for market.
The waiadino moulding requires another pro
ones to, give it the .waving lines. After the
whitinklas been distributed the stripe are taken
to the crimping machine, an ingenious inven-
Cowl . There are a variety of bits, to snit ail
kindsof moulding. ,; The motion of the machine
threire rapidly ap and down a deiplicate
',blob leaves it, impression upon the whiting.—
The moulding then goes into the gilding room.

burgh:holds eight thousand eases of the capital
stook of the Allegheny Valleyßailroad Company,
for the paynaent of which the .Bonds of the said
City to the amount of $400,000 wore issued and
delivered to Bald Company; thet Bald bonds have
been cold, and the proceeds applied to the CaLt
seruction of said :Railroad, fifty-four miles of ,
which Wive been completed.. That by agreement '
between said City and Company, it was otipule.
ted that tho Company would pay the interest
seml-annually, falling due op Bald bonds. And
whereas tho old Company is unable to pay the
said interest unless by the eacrifice of its prop
erty and eecnritles to an extent ruinous to the
stookiMiders, and whereas the said City holds
nearly one-fourth of the said steak, and would
be consequently injuriously affected by any un
necessary eacrifices of the property of mild Com

sbuices, would earnestly and respectfully request
the Cornelia of the said City to take such meas

her next, and upon the payment of the same to

The undersigned tnibmit the annexed state

neaten that, with the cordial co-operation '.of the
city and county authorities and individual Stock
holders, the ultimate success of the great im
provement placed raider their charge will be
eenuredto the high advantage and interest of this
community.
The road so far as built has cost less money
per mile than have most of the railroads in the
country;---its earnings in Its unfinished condition
indicates to some extent Ste value and importance
when complete. It is confidently believed that
if relieved , of the obligation to moot the -road
annual payments of interest on its stock ter a
few years it can be carried to proper and sue
cessful connexions with other roads and placed in
position to repay to the etookboldera a fair in

and, completion of the work may be rationally
expected.
The statements submitted exhibit the condi
tion of the Company. The Free Went and Board
of Manners have largely extended their own
money And credit for the benefit of the work.—
They are exhausted. Unless the stockholders
will step forward to their aid this great improve
ment so essential to the prosperrity of our city
and county must be necessarily abandoned.
We therefore request the Councils not only as
Directors and Stockholders in said Company,
but as property hoidens and tax payers in the
city that they (Councils) will extend such aid as
may be in their power. Wx. F. Jonweros,
