We know not what comment to make 'upon
this gigantio wickedness which Gen- Smith's re
ply reveals. It is doubtless the purpoee of the
Administration now, as It has always been, to
reduce Kansas to Slavery; but symptoms of a
rebellion of the Democracy of the North against
the Iniquity, have become so general, that it
was hoped that it would relax, if tot for a brief
period, Ito iron rule over the distracted and on
happy Territory. In this hope; however, there
is no reliance. Whatever show of fairnessmay
be Made by Douglas and Toombs at Washing
ton, the Bayonet and the Buffalo arc still to
have sway on the Border. The lives and the
property of the settlers are still to be at the
mercy of the predatory hordes which the policy
of Atchison and the complicity of Shannon have
brought upon the land. The work of terrorism
is &Lill to go on. More Free /Bate men are to
be driven off, as hundreds have been before.—
More towns are to be sacked. The highways
are elill to 'worm by the freebooters by whom
they have been infested. More Buohnniering is '
to be done upon the Missouri. More blood of
innocent men is to wet the Roil of Kansas. In
a word, the system which Stringfellow and
Atchison inaugurated and which Douglas,
Pierce ik Co., have defended through thick and
this, is to he worked oat until its legitimate re
sult—the establishment of Slavery in Kamm—
is attained.
It is worthy of remark tbst the instructions
upon which Mr. Pierce's embordinste In the Ter
ritory is acting, were' framed In Washington,
about tho time that the bill of Toombs and Doug•
lay for the pacification of Kansas woe drawn op.

KANSAS TO Di AUDI A STATI—MIIMOURIAIe DO
TOUR DDlT.—it may be regarded no vermin, that
tho bill to organize a State Constitution in Nan.
OM will, if not already, beoome a law; it has
paned the Senate, and wiliness the Douse!
By this bill all who are residents of Kansas on
let at Aoguet, will be entitled to rote at the
election on let Monday In November,. when the
destiny of Kansas will be fixed forever!
Every abolitionist than can be hired, will bo
there! Will Missourians bo there to meet them?
It is your duty to more at once—make your
settlers—get tho right to vott—and you
will thus secure to all honest men the right to
tiro lu Hums or Missouri!
If abolitionists from spite, without any - per
onal Interest at stako, can come from Boston,
will not Missourians who have their all at stake
bo willing to change thelr neighborhood, for this
is all you do in moving to Kansas? Who will
hesitate?
Top have the right to go—it Is your duty to
go—your Interests prompts you to go—your
very necessity compelu you to go!
Go there at once—be there u iottlers—be
three to be enrolled—be there to rote, and thus
cave yourselves and your country!
We aro glad to sue all ground no preparing to
more! Knowing that the day for the final strug
gle hu come, they do not bold back. Lot others
do their duty and we are saved!
Inds illustrates well the deeperation with
which the Border Ruffians cleave to the notion
of making Kansas a Blare State, and the char

Tire WILONOI or KANSAB.-111 his speech the
other day ori the lows of Kansas, Mr. Colfax
couclnded his setrohing review of this bloody

in spirit and bloody in Its coneequencee—by en
allusion to the smiling valley and fertile plains
of the Territory once devoted to freedom, now
I overspread by the sorrowful scenes of ctvu!
wen waged in behalf of Slavery. This allusion
brought to hls !mind the language of Kentucky's
beset, Henry Clay, uttered in the Senate in
1850,—and with It, aa applicable to the present
contest—es a warning on one hand, and as en
couragement on the other to persevere and press
I forward where a Clay would have led were ho
' concluded his speech:
"But if, unhappily (enid Mr. Clay,) we shall
be involved, in war—in civil war—between the
two parts of this Confederacy, in which they...ef
fort upon the one side should - be to restrain the
introduction of Slavery into new Territeries,
and upon the other side to force its introduction
there, what a spectacle should we presenttto
the astonishment of mankind, in an effort, not
to propagate rights, but—l must say it, though
I trust it will be understood to be said with no
design to excite feeling—a war to propagate
wrongs in the Territories thus acquired from
hlexioo! It would be a war in which we should
have no sympathies, no good wishes—in which
all mankind would be against us for, from the
commencement of the Revolution down to the
present time we have constantly reproached our
British ancestors for the introduction of Slavery
into this country."
