There are some persona in Pennsylvania who,

taken *solid pains to prevent any =oh pee

In his 4leeptecia to the - Keystone club he said:
l"Gentlemen; two weeks ahem I should have
mediyou'ilagaspeeeb, but now I have been
pieced upon aphid:am of which I most heartily
approve, and that cap speak for me. Being the
representative or the great Democratic party,
mut *or simply Tams Baehanan, I most square
my; conduct according to the platform of that
party, and insert no law plank, nor take one
from it. That-platform is sufficiently broad and
Wing for the whole Democratio party."
This is too explicit for doubt. Mr. Buchanan
proclaims that be Is not to be regarded - simPlyat
James Buchanan, but the representative of that
Democratic: paity which sustains Plan and
Douglael, 'hi repealed the sacred Compact of
Pew, which is now engaged in alaughterini the
Flee State men of Kansas, and which palliates
and defends the ruffian Brooks. Cornavermi
Wares are not asked brthia Candidate to vole for
him, buffer Ms party with all its detested principle/.
If any man has bad confidence that James Bu
chanan would change the policy of the Pierce
administration, let him throw the idea aside, for
he himself declares; "he must square his conduct
according to the platform of his party, and invert
no new plank, nor sato one from it." We are
to have a continuation of the Pierce Administra
lion, bound band and foot to the slave power.
We are heartily glad that Mr. Buchanan has
thus early announced his position, and that we
are the, enabled to understand, that he aecepto
the whole bane made by the democracy at Cie
piens% end that Foe claims no support on account
of MS Oirl individual elects. He fully representa
Miami" as the mere creature of the party which
nominated him, as the obidient tool of the Slave
ocracy which dictated the platform, and as una
ble to add a single good principle to the policy
.of the alemeDemoaracy. Something of this kind,
some dalangion of this nature was wanted to
convince many in our midst of thetrue charac
ter of James Buchanan. There is not on Old
Whig, cherishing an affectionate remembrance
of the Whig party, there is not an Independent
Democrat who has determined to stay the pro
gress of the slave power, there is not an Ameri
can who cherishes the genial principles of Free
dom, there is not' h Republican whose heart is
running over with the wrongs of Hams, who
does net regard these avowals: of Mr. Buchanan as
placing him without the pale of his support.—
Men who have looked upon Mr. Buchanan as
something besides a partisan, tuns away with
disgust fiom the eubsealent instrument of that
same Oligarchy which bee rendered tho Admin
iltration of Franklin Pierce s by-wcrd and a
represeh. The open avowals of the Democratic
Candidate show the boldness and confidence of
our adversaries, but we trust that the effect will
be a closer union of all their opponents, aid a
determined and vigorous effort to give success to
the Right. If we unite our broken ranks, and'
strike for Freedom and Humanity, the cause of
our Country will be gloriously triumphant
Amon IPLese, in Penneylnnis, to the strong
est candidate the Republican Convention can
take up, particularly in the Southern counties,
and the Eastern part of the State. In the
Northern counties Fremont U probably equally
popular with ISPLean., But to carry Pennsylva
nia, it is essential to unite the opposition forces.
So far as we know public sentiment, Judge
M'Leen's nomination will effect oath a anion.
It le also possible that a union can be effected
with Fremont, but nothing ought to be left to
chance on a subject of such moment, when it
can be prevented.
The Iforririntee Telegraph, which represents
the sentiment of the opposition In the interior of
the State, closes a long article in favor of a
cordial union of the opposition to the pro-slavery
Detnoerney, in the following words :
..We cannot forbear, in closing this article, to
state our ow: strong conviction that JOHN
ISCLEAN of Ohio is the man for the crisis. The
signs of the times, in our opinion, point unmis
takably tq him as the rallying centre, round
which the opponents of Slavery Extension
should gather in their might. With Judge
BM= as our candidate we shall meet the Bo
amass forces upon the battle ground of the
Old Keystone with an assured confideece of SIM
ON&
In Philadelphia, a powerful movement has
been set on foot to concentrate the opposition
strength, with a view to unite on Judge 11'Lean,
as the candidate of all the opponents of the pro
slavery Democracy. The Times, the leading
organ of the American party, presses the claims
of Judge M'Lean with great seat In its last
butte it ale:
"The Convention which wilt soon assemble will
confer both honer upon `themselves and the
country by meeting the popular wants, and giv
ing them, a formal embodiment. The conven
tions of the 12th and 17th will but sanction what
the people bare already decreed. 'The
nomina
tion of Judge ld'Lean by both will be only the
recognition of their will. They both convene
but to ratify whet is already enacted. Even to
.. ;day a. call is put forth, under the most power
fat end auspicious influences, for a meeting,
without distinction of party, to pronounce the
voice of this city on his behalf, and to demon
strate hie great local strength. It is the magi
cal Influence his name invoker that has stirred
up this great movement In MIT midst."

The Cincinnati correspondent of the Phildel

"By taking this roots we did not by any means
escape the crowd: for we found oureelvbs among
o party of about four hundred, who were gener

Congress and Southern government officials, all
of whom were wending their we; towards Wash

experience, we never recollect to have fallen

"These gentlemen were all cal:slats and for
getful of the fact that there was a eidel among
thorn whomlght perhaps takenotes, they discuss
ed the nomination and the inoidents of the Con

made no secret whatever of their dissatisfaction
with the nomination. The platform, they admit
ted, was not objectionable, bat Mr. Buchanan
did not suit them as its exponent. They wanted
Pierce or Douglas, and they made no hesitation
in saying that it was only because they could
not help themselves that they earns to terms
with the admirers of the "Great Petunyisanian."
These gentlemen let out something more, to win
that a regular bargain had bean mule on the eve
of the a:min/bon and that the Pierce-Douglas
ites had only gone over to Buchanan with the
express stipulation that the friends of the latter
were to go for Douglas in 1860. These friends
of the Little Giant farther slimed the hollow
ness of their profeesions of good-will towards
Buchanan, by laughing heartily over the speeches
they had made in his praise, In and out of the
Convention, after his nomination had become •
fixed fact."
