Our readers will recollect that be plead hts own case; in the language of a by stander, on Saturday, he doubtless found the new law of much more effect than constitutional Law, upon which he dwelt with much earnestness before the jury, when on trial. About one hundred indictments under the law of 1866, whioh caroled the hasty departure from town of a great many liquor sellere about the commencement of the sessions of December, and Parch, of course all fall to the ground, too. "After visiting the Jail, they take pleasure in stating their entire satisfaction in the manner in which it is conduoted, under the control of Mr. -Phillips, who appears to study the comfort of the inmates in cleanliness, and the good order apparent throughout. At tthe same time this Jury would recommend that some provision be made for the moral and religious instruction of the inmates at least on the Sabbath day, concur in former presentments of Grand Juries, where in they recommend the employment et labor of committed vagrants. After visiting the Peni tentiary, under the control of Major Beckham, they state they found that establishment in very good order, neat and (dean, and the proviAorts for the inmates ample and good, so far as sub mitted to them."
