They state that only one Republican was nominated on the list of delegates. , This is not true. Two of the , 'delegates never belonged to the Atherton's party, and were active in promoting the Republican organirition lasi summer, and all the Delegates are in favor of filing aside all other issues, and going into the contuse on the one, l'greilir and ARA issue of tin° extension of slavery. This is ' . all we ask; it is all we leave ever asked; , it is all that iheßepublican party asks. Oar neighbors are evidently claimed at the prospect of a union of the anti-Nebniska elements In this State.— They know that;it this union is perfected on the lens of Freedom against gayety, that the days of proaavery Democracy are cambered in Pennsylvania. The Font, in 'sister to shun an IBMs which it fears to meet, stultifies itself by declaring that the “slavery' extension idea has no practical bearing upon this present State of our National sours.. We shall not waste words to show the absurdity and Mendacity of this statement. We need only refer' to the resolutione of the kat Democratic State Convention, to the Message° and Proclamations of the President, to the speeches, reports and action of Congress, to the whole newspaper press, and to the absorbing topic of conservation in the attests and hotels, in the. Railmad cars, and In private houses, to prove that slavery extension:hi the issue—the ab sorbing issue, and the any vital 'reline which fe now agitating pitislie mind. The Pad says that Kansas will be a Free State. >We think it likely, but how will thisbe brought about? By blinking the queCtion; by denying its importance; by ignoring 14 by sympathising and sustaining the Ellevocrsitcy and Border Ruffians, as do the resolutions of the Buchanan Democratic Penn sylvaniis State Convention? `lf Kansas is saved for freedom; if it is rescued from the blighting influences of slavery; if it is reserved for the in dependent home of poor free white men, it will be by the exertions of those wLom the Part derides and libels, to the extent of its went abilities. Vie isitiOnal Administration, which the /fest supports, backed by the Democratic. party of Pciniyivaula, 03 represented in the last Harrisburg Convention, Is doing all in Its power to devote Senses to Slavery, sided and '''abotted by the Post. We believe, with the Post, it will be saved to Freedom, and long remain the home of free men, but it will be in despite of the Post Sad Ito proaavery allies, and by per sisting in electing a President on the Issue of opposing foment . hereafter all further extension of Slavery. Strrausitsa, March 20, 1854. A meeting of the citizens of Armstrong oonuty who are opposed to the present administration, and the rule of the slave power, and in favor of a union of all parties favorable to freedom in Kansas, use held yesterday at the Court House, in Kittanning. The officers of the meeting were Mr. Jona Rena; of Franklin township, Presi dent; Hon. A. AILVOLD and !dons Dian; Vice Prisidents, and F. filacenso, Secretary. J. A. GORDON, •ESQ., gated the object of the meeting in abort hut pertinent address, and Toyed the appointment of a committee to pre pare resolutions in accordance with the objects of the meeting. J. A. Gordon, Josiah Copley, Alex. Henry, J. A. Quigley and Wm. Christy were appointed, who, after retiring, reported I thefollowing: Wm:ism, a crisis has arrived in the political history of the country, which is welt calculated to excite alarm, and to call forth the best end moot active energies of all good citizens; Air we find that, under the much abused name of De mocracy, an oligarchy has grown up, formidable in numbers, wealth, influence and power, com posed of slaveholders, and supported by oring log parasites in the free States, whose sole aim is to perpetuate, strengthen and extend the in stitution of elarery, even if it should require the sacrifice of every prineiple‘eld seared by free; men, and of every other material interest of tee nation both north and south. . That oligarchy had, for more than twenty yews, dictated the entire policy of the nation, and dictated it bat too suceezefully. It has refused to permit us to improve our great lilting liTertl and thus retarded our prosperity and entailed upon us in- Weldable lass of both property and life. It has forbidden us to protect our great manufacturing interests, and left us a prey to the end manufao taring and financial combinations of Europe, whose interest it was to repress and crush out the genius and-industry of oar countrymen, so that they could keep us in a condition of com mercial and pecuniary dependence, and draw from ns the ;metallic basis of our circulation, leaving ne at once the victims of over-grown capitalists abroad, and the prey of money-shavers &theme. • It has thrown around one single ape ties of property, the holding of which is abhor rent to every principle of true American Repub licanism' guarantees unknown to all other laws of property, and enacted a law imposing upon the citizens of the free States duties, the per formance of which is morally and politically degrading. And lastly, Bumming us to be thoroughly subjugated by one audacious act of 'bed faith,lt wrested from the people of the free States the last acre of their unorganized territo ry, and threw It open to the inroads of slavery ; and.all these things were done in the name of Democracy. We therefore meet this day to unite with our fellow citizens everywhere, who agree with us that there are a few thingsin the constitution of the United States of some'value besides the brief clause touching the rendition of fugitives from labor; some rights worth cher ishing and defending; some grand principles which it would be well to keep in mind. With such we desire to unite to oppose this dangerous oligaithy and its allies—not to violate any of their constitutional or n ational . rights, but eim ply to prevent them fram trampling any longer upon oars. 1. Resolved, That the times require us to lay aside, for the time being, all our minor differ ences—to postpone but not abandon them; for the very fact that we hold certain views and opinions Is evidence that we believe them to be right—and to unite in a generous anti patriotic effort to restore to the free States that position in the government of the country to which they are entitled, and to tell the comparatively small number of cliirena who happen to own African slaves that their arrogance their rule, their de mands and aggresslow; will no longer be arth mitted to. . _ 2. Resolved, That we regard that Democracy which bee no higher mission than to be tin de fence and bulwark of slavery in all its outrages and aggressions, both In Congress and in Kan sas as epurions, and ehamefully degrading to any man who pretends to be free; and that we cher ish the hope that few of the democrats of Penn sylvania will be found, • during the important struggles of the present year, giving aid to a set of men who despise them for their positien in life as Industrious and laborious men, while at the same time they are very willing that they should remain servilely obedient to their politi cal mandates. 8. Released, "That in anion there is strength," and that we are very melons to arm a generous and cordial union of all citizens who are in favor of seeing Kansas come in as a free State; who* condemn the violation and repeal of the sacred compact known as the Missouri Compromise; ♦ho are opposed to yielding to slavehordere more than their proper numerical share In the gov ernment of the country ; who are of opinion that Blimp has been sufficiently extended for the general good; and, in short, all who hold that the constitution was established "to secure the blessings of liberty,"—a fact In danger of being forgotten—a union to put men in once, from the President down through all grades, who will have 'nerve entficisnl to preserve them from :trim:King to the arrogant power which his for so long a time had every thing its own way, that it seems to imagine that it has a prescriptive if not a divine right to rule. 4. Racked, That if wo divide and scatter our votes, wo cannot hope to succeed; therefore we promise that we will labor to bring about a union on such terms that all good citizens eon co-operate without an abnegation of any cher ished principle or sacrifice of self-respect. 5. Resolved, That we approve of the holding of a Union State Convention at Harrisburg, on the 26th inst, and that JObLial Corker, Esq., be appointed a delegate to represent this county in sold Convention, and that D. Pilaus, Esq , be oar choice as the senatorial candidata from this district, with authority, if necessary, .to appoint a substitute. 6. Resolved, That we dealre our delegates to act on the principle, of generous concession in •questions and opinions of minor importance, Go that the freemon:of Pennsylvania may be enabled to unite On one man upon the great question that now overrides all other Danes, and which must be settled before the country can hope to enjoy the blessings of either liberty or peace. 7. Resolved, That we respectfully recommend oar follow citizen, DARWIN PHILIPS, EN., to that Convention as a candidate for Auditor Gen. eral, believing him to be eminently qualified, and we do this with the more confidence be- cause we are aware that public opinion in other jortions of the Commonwealth• boo already pointed to him as the man. After a free and friendly discussion the blanks 'were filled and the preambles and resolutions unanimously adopted. On motion, Resolved, That a report of these proceedings be published in the Kittanning Fru Prses and other papers friendly to our cause. On motion a committee of thirty-five citizens residing in all parts of the county, was ap pointed to call future meetings, and to do what ever they might deem neoesary in promotion of the course in which we are united. On motion the meeting adjourned. JOON REED; President. Vico Presidents. F. .31 eehling, Secretary. Litteriel Cka•tewattenee at the N. Y. Mona. TIES GRIM.?
