past nine o'clock yea - lads} , morning, the bells of
the steamboats lying at the wharf, were rung
with great energy, and every body made a rush

anticipated break-up of the- ice. The ice had
rooted a short distance only, lodging against the
,piste of the Monoogahela Bridge, and the talent
of the break-up amounted to the detaching of
several large cakes of lie, which in their course

market closed dull and quiet, prices are un
changed. At Manchester the markets are steady
and unchanged. "

brand. lard. quiet, but prices irregular at
662®605.
Murex klatuter.—The market Is more strin
gent for money. Consols bare advanced and
are quoted at 9011g961. A new loan of £600,-
000,000 has been ordered.
All the envoys to the pease conference have
arrived at Paris and the Sessions - were to open
on the 28d.
The confident'', Is the establishment of peace
continues undiminished.
The excitement in the public mind relative to
the American difficulty is subsiding. The con
centration of a large British force In Canada has
been ordered.
From the fact that the above deipatch pre
pared in Liverpool makes no mentlon'of the
Pacific, it is feared that no tidings of her have
been received there.
The Baltic reached her dock at 11 o'clock.
She brings dates to the 20th but the papers
contain no striking news.
The London Times announces that 18 regi
ments and battalliona of rifles are to be des
patched to Canada and that several other regi
ments will follow. It is also rumored that al
most every regiment attached to the home ser
vice has received an intimation that their ser
'gen) may be required in Canada.
Money continues extremely tight, the demand
being in excess of the supply.
The new loan of £600,000,000 announced, pro
vide': for the funding of Exchequer Bills to the
extent of £8,000,000. As these amounts have'
to be paid in five instalments in the course of
two months, the demand will doubtless continue
to bo active and the marketcontinues stringent.
Consols had improved on the announcement of
the loan to 911; but afterwards declined to 901-
®9Ol. Rothoktilds, it is said, propose taking
the whole of the new loan.
Much gossip continuer' in relation to the peace
conference. Baron Brunow is reported to have
said that Rossistrincerely deeires peace, but if it
is not declared within three or four weeks at
the farthest from the opening of the conference,
serious difficulles might interfere with the final
settlement of the question.
Lord Clarendon had a private interview with
Napoleon immediately upon his arrival at Paris.

BOlrox, March 4.—The American Council of
Massachusetts commenced a melon here to
day.. About 300 delegates were In attendance.
The delegates to the National Convention ex
plained their course at Philadelphia. Mr.
Richmond, delegate at large and Mr. Allen one
of the district delegates spoke against Mr. Fill.
more's nomination. Mr. Ely said that Mr.
Fillmore was not Ms choice, but he felt bound
to support the uomilatiou. Mr. Belittle!lowed
on the same aide. The Council then adjourned
until evening.
