LITIELTON THOXAB SZNTINCID.-4Rentarb of
Court and of the Prisoner.—Contrary to the ex
pectations generally entertained, founded upon
the illness of the old man, the Court on Satur
day ordered Leverton Thomas to be brought in
for sentence upon the conviction for Forgery.
The prisoner was taken from his bed, and sup
ported by Jailor Phillips and Deputy-Sheriff
Highlands, brought into the Court-room. His
emaciated appearance—the effect at illness op

every breast for the unfortunate man.
Upon being addressed by the Court, he was
lifted from his chair, but ores permitted to re

Judge McClave—The duties of the Court are
often trying and disagreeable, and none more so

PIIILADILPELIA, March I.—Tbe concluding
correammdence was received tile late last ejgbj,
to be sent through. The following letter from
Lord Clarendon to Mr. Crampton was' received
at the State Department on Thursday night. It
is doted Nov. 10th, bat Mr. Crampton give! ea
an excuse for not submitting It previously, that
the last paragraph escaped hits notice, and he
believed at the time that the proposal for en ar
bitration meotioned in it itutintended only for
his own information. It eays that Mr. Buchan
an having, in the course of conversation a few
days ego, adverted to the impression that would
be created in the United States by the non
settlement of the. Central American Queston, I
again assured him that England had no wish to
extend her influence or obtain any territory in
that part of the 'world, and reminded him that
as a differehms between this country and the
United States had turned solely upon the inter-
pritation of thd Treaty of 1850, I had offered,
on the port of Her Majesty's Government, to
submit the ease to the Arbitration of a third
power. Her Majesty's Government, I sold,
would still abide by their offer, rind thought it
would be the fairest and moat amicable manner
of arriving at a settlement of tho (vacation. Mr.
Buohanan said he. would make 11 known to his
Government, and you are Instructed to oommu•
Ideate this dispatch to Mr. Morey.
• The frame's Washington correspondent says
an impression exists strongly here that the same
double-dealing has been exhibited in this matter
as in the enlistment, and Mr. Crampton has
shown himself either incompetent or delinquent
according to his own pretended jnetification.—
The eutploion is that these' instructions 'were
never sent at all, until Mr. Buchanan made an
issue on the foots contained in Lord elarendon's
speech, and they were contrived for the occa
sion. It is highly improbable that an astute
Minister like Mr. Crompton, would neglect im
portant inetruotions on a serious question which
had been pending tenyears and threatening the
peace of the countries when they contemplated
a mode of adjustment.
