by the President to be the election of representa
tives of the stock held in the Ohio & Peatuolva

Mr. Miller presented the following resolution
Whereas—The Oeinmittes appanted by Conn
dla 1855 to vote the etoek of the city of Pitts
.burgh in the Ohio & Pennsylvania Railroad at
the election foiDiSsotors to be held an. the 24th
et dentistry K. I). 1855; has ceased to ham legal

by said Committee 'would be illegal and void,
- and could not be legally counted by the offsoere

Resolied, Thatthe President of Councils be
authorized to appoint a committee of live, two
from Beleot Council, .Imi three from the Com
mon Council to vote and otherwise represent
the stook of the said'-city at' the election to be
held on the 24th of 'January, 1856, for Directors
of said road;
He proceeded to say that the Councils for
,1855'had no - right to appoint a Committee for
1856; and the Cotamittee so appointed had no
power to aot, their authority ceasing with that
which appointed:.
Mr. Griffui bald that he had voted twice for
the city; and inquired whether they were legal.
Millei.was decided in his impression that
they Were not.
Mr. Erratt inquired whether all the stook hid
not been voted since the inauguration of the pres
ent Councils.- He thought they bad.
After some 'further diecuselots, a motion to lay
on the table was made by Col. Scott.' The ques
tion being pit, the chair that it was lost;
whereupon the yeas and nays were called on the
division, with the following result:
