fuel; they , require6.4od dear of labor they
miry imperfectly heat a rOom, and they create
cold drafts from nearly every crevice sienna

fair ventilation.
The only, way.by which a room or house can
be thoroughly heated and ventilated at thfsame

Evidences accumulate as to the determination
entertained by the Fuller men to unite with the
Richardson men!! the latter had not prevented
them. Thus the Washington oorreepontint of,
of the Philadelphia Sun nye:
"That Mr. Banks willeventually be the Speak
er I have no shadow of doubt. There has been
a time when this might have been prevented by
a union of the National Americans and the Dem
ocrats, without the' sturrifiee by either party of
any , of their principles; and without endanger
ing their distinctive positions as parties other
wise at variance. That time, in my opinion, has .
passed forever. Not contented with adopting in
caucus at the commencement of the session a
resolution repulsive and insulting to the Nation
al Americans, the Democratic speakers on the
floor have seemed determined, in every possible
manner, to widen the branch thin created and
prevent the possibility of such a anion as I base
notated. The national men have been perti
naciously classed with those who repudiate the
twelfth article of the Philadelphia platform, and
seek to . get up a- entienal one in its place.—
Their motives have been impugned, their prinot
pies ridiculed, their very patriotism denied, and
even their right to hold their seats as represen
tative, of the people boldly questioned. This
was no way by which-to secure their co-opera
, Abu in 'the election of a national Dimwit for
Speaker. Such a.msn, I unhesitatingly assert,
could have been._ found, who would otherwise
have been so little obnoxious, that the Puller
men could lave consistently east their votes for
him, and thin have put an end to the agitation
of the question which seems destined to keep
the 34th Congress in a constant turmoil. The
self-constituted leaders of the Democratic party
in the House have effectually pot an end to any
prospect or hope of such a consummation."
DEPAITLILI OP VIII NoIIIIIIERR Liastv.—An
exaininstiol of the cargo of the steamship
Northern Light took place yesterday, wider the
direction of Captain Fannin. The impress
companies having goods shipped to California,
ware permittedto put 'in sworn invokes, and
their packages were not tlisturbod. A large
number of boxes shipped by, Wino & Mo's ex
press for the Isthmus, were opened, and found
to - contain fanning utensil.. It was' proposed
that the coal be removed; but the agents of the
steamship company said if that was underta
ken.the delay would break the connection on
the Pacific, and if the proposition was carried
into effect, they would abandon the venal to the
Government. It was Lally arranged that two
deputy niinshalls should go out in her to Ponta
Arenas, and see that nothing contraband of war
is lauded from per. •
Tho exoinination, so far as It went, baying
7tleped nothing to justify the further deten
tion of the steamship, and the proposed remo
val of the coal having been abandoned under
the above arrangement, the -District Attorney
‘tel:sgrephed the facts to Washhsgton, end re
qUested;permissica to withdraw the blockade.—
At 9' o'clock a reply was received 'from Mr.
