Dexasztous Ornrross.—Dxcierou or JUDOS
lersca.—We learn from the Sytatrase Chronicle
that Mr. E..T. .Hayden„ a builder of that city,
who recently went to Florida to erect some build
imp for a gentleman in Gadsden Cooney, has
been expelled by . Judge Lynch because he was
not prepared to indorse the. "peculiar institu

"Mr. Hayden is a very intelligent man, an
old resident of Syracuse and an active member
of the Pint Presbyter ian Church, where 'be is

he associated himself with the church, and *ant

strong interest in colonisation as a principal .

Mr. Hayden palsied the oven tenor of hie
way, not interfertint in any manner, either by
word or deed, with the subject of master and
slave, but when he was questioned - on the sub

should, that he was tfoinst the usage; that le
regarded the Bible as Will/11 it; and that `ha-'

against it. He also freely expreased his be
lief that the Fughive Slave Dew was in direct

and with the 'higher law' of God. These ex

rate circle, among his friends; and novel. seemed
to create airy excitement or dirrideriimre."
"Bat at length rumors began to grow that bk.
Hayden was an _Abolitionist and did not . believe
in the "paper of Slavery. The fast that he
knew of these remora he learned from self

attended, who In the spirit of kindness waited

entered the chop and ordered the men to o to
their work. The order was obeyed by b ut
McGrath; who struck at Mr. Leggett, an called
to the rest of the men to "come on." . antral
of the convicts immediately 'responded to •
calli nut Mr. Leggett sneoeeded in getting out
the shop , and, obtaining a carbine; returned t
the scene of the riot, where he was joined by the
agent and warden and the principal keeper.
The convicts were again ordered to worli;"an
'not obeying, the officers proceeded summa rily to
enforce the order. Mr. Bitteman beat back
McGrath with his cane, and Mr. Leggett was
'forced to break his carbine over the bead of a
!stalwart negro named Sallth. Finding them
selves met by determined men, the convicts re
turned to their ditty, and order was restored.
As in evidence that Weans a concocted plot,
it wu noticed that when the draggle first, com
menced McGrath raised the window; and call
ed out to the convicts in the brass shop that "the
war had commenced—oitme on!" He also male
the same call to the men in the file shop.
The men in • e brass shop started to respond
to thin call, b• t Mr Lewis, the foreman in the
119, stood at the door, and drove them back to
their work. B• t for this determined wetness
on the part of • r. Lewis,l can hardly doubt but
both 'shops wo .Id have b een in open rebellion.
The men in he file shop paid no attention to
the call of mi l lath, but kept steadily at their
work. !
