to enable them to load steamboats with railroad
iron, - without the trouble of re-shipment. Re

prevented an ordinance, granting permission to
Allegheny Malley Railroad to enter the city:
Mr. Loomis objected to the report, as it was
only signed by four persons, who did constitutes
quorum of the Committee, and moved that. it be
not received. This motion was carried and the
report refused.

New Yowl, Nov. 27. The Chamber of Com
merce bold a meeting to-day to., hear the report
of the Committee in the Benne Maury affair.—
John A. Stevens submitted a report and resolu
tions which state that no proper amends have
yet been made to the 'owners of the Maury, nor
to the merchants of New York so injuriously
assailed; that the merchants of the United States
will uphold the Bever:meat in the maintenance
of our neutrality and denounce all violators as
disturbers of the peace of the world, to be held
in unusual abhorrence. The report declares the
action of the British Consul and Minister as
unwarrenteitand that there is not the slightest
foundation for the report that other Russian
vessels are fitting out in ports of the United
States.
WOTILINGTON CITY, NOT. 27.—The official dis
patches received by the Canada underwent ex
amination at the State Department till • late
hour on Sunday night and yesterday. and were
officially considered, the Cabinet meeting an
hour earlier than" usual. It is understood that
the &presentatives of our Government regard
-log the alleged violation of our neutrality laws by
.Mr. Grampton have not bein met in that straight
forward manner our Government had a right to
expect. Mr. Buchanan says the professions of
friendship by the British Cabinent are morn
