The minority platform presented at Cincinnati

readirms the Principle dectered by the unanimous
vote of the Fathers of the Republic, that "Slave
ry or Involuntary servitude is inoonsistent with
the fundamental principles of civil and religious
liberty," and that therefore slavery-should be ex
cluded from National Territory, and the just
inlineatee of the National Government be exerted
on the side of freedom. It also recommends the
abolishment of secrecy, and a cordial co-operation
with all who are ready to unite with them in
defence of constitutional freedom against moon-

broad and fair ground of conciliation and cc-op

the committee of the secret organization arrived

Next . day another committee -- arrived. In the

W T :IS THOUGHT or 01311 PHOGIESS.—The
folioriisg is from a recent-number of the lit

of /Pennsylvania in all the great elements of
State Prosperity is duly noticed by our - Cotem

PINISILTANIA. AND NSW YOE/L.—There eeems,
at present, to be a probability that the Key
straw wilt eventually pass the Empire. Our
New York exchanges speak in the moat despond
ing tones of the prospects ahead; while all the
papers in Pennsylvania exult in contemplation
of the time when their great State will resume
her former position. Nor does this deem like an
illusion of the fancy. An examination of the
stridence of population fortes no to the oonclu
eon that the chances are in favor of Pennsylva
nia. 'We give the population of the two Stain at
there consecutive censuses:
•1830. - 1840. 1850.
Permsylvania..l,34B,233 1,724,033 2,811,786
New York 1,918,608 2,428,928 3,091,394
- Between 1840 and 1850 the increase in Penn
sylvania was 34.09 per cent, In New York only
27.62. The late census in New York reveals
the fact that the ratio of increase in that State
Is on the decrease. The total 'population at
present is less than 3,400,000; showing an in
crease in five years of less than. 9.5 per cent
--Even this ratio is, we believe, on the decrease;
but admitting that the inert - as - a for the next five
years will be 9 percent, the population of New
York in -1860 will fall short of three million
seven hundred-thousand.
There can be no doubt that the ratio in Penn
sylvaniais on the increase. The present pop
ulation cannot be less than 2,700,000. Between
1830 and 1810 the ratio of increase was 27.87;
between 1840 and 1850 It was 34,009; and if it
should be no more than jis between 1860 and
1860 the population will then be 3,120.911. At
the came ratio the population in 1870 will be
4,213,230. In New York, according to present
indication, the popidation will he about 4,250,-
000.
