Public Schools of the Ninth Ward open this
moining in pr new building- which hoe just
been comp l This, building as & m e d a l ;
seventy-five.feet in length by sixty feet hi widtin
tarnished laexquisite teete,ond constructed with
a view to comfort and °finnan:le for school
purposes. Its roof is slant on all sides, presen
ting ac uninterrupted sure, •tastefully decorated
with a
.6naeornice of birch-work, around the
whole building. It is three stories in, height
and its rows of windows, curved at the top, are
areleged in couPleta, arched together at regular
intervals by a projection of the masonry of the
wails. The whole exter n al appearance has a
fine effect; and its interior arrangements are
every way elegant and convenient. Mr. Herr is
the Arcldtect. The contractor, Mr. Jos. H.
Knobs, a resident of the ward, bar furnished
cheap yet Unattained welt-built edifice, with a
promptness and 'dispatch worthy of especial
remark. The contract was made about the 16th
of last April, and since that time the old build
ing his been rased and the present elegant and
ample one motel, which now occupies its site.
The dunks of the public are due to the Board
of Directors of the 9th , Ward who have put up
building widoban ornament to that part of
the city, end whi will afford all those facilities
which every schoo IThotrld have for the encases
ful prosecution of learning.

Yesterday, Bailey was committed to jail to

Pennsylvania Hospital. The wound Is not dan
gerous one.

that Judge McClure did not dismiss the Stir

Jim Yogic,' September 4—An aoeident ea
crurrild laat, night to the steamboat train cetaing
from Boston. Boverel of the second class pas
sengers were severely injured. -The train was
delayed seven. how!. The .paseengere arrived
there at two o'clock. , I -
The train which left Boston on Monday even
ing met with quite a suit= accident on the
Btonington Railroad, some three miles this side
or Kingston, by which several of the second
alma passengers were severely injured, and the
train delayed seven hours, so that the passen
gers did not' arrive here until nearly 3 o'clock
to-day. - It is said that - a.rail bad been removed
from the, track. The train- consisted of two
second elide and etc first class oars, having
between 400 and 600 passengers on board they
were all thrown off the track.except the two
behind;: the- second -; ease cars were thrown
arms the brook and completely demolished.

both legs ; Robert Lawrentwo, 'Mail wicked
one leg badly fractured; Patrick Hoganbad his
book and chest. badly hurt; David MoNeill,.of
Belfast, Me., hail-his back and spine injured;
Smith, of Hamden's itzpress, had- a foot badly
ornehed, and several others ware more or len
injured.
The passengers subsequently held a meeting
on bowl the steamier Plymouth Rock while on
their way to this city, when speeches were made
by Dr. Peter Parker, Rev. Dr. ()bickering and
others. A. series of suitable resolutions were
adopted and • committee appointed to collect
subsoriptione for the sufferers. -
Berxixoaa, September 4.—The Norfolk boat
arrived this morning; she brings awful tidings
of the ravages of yellow fever at that place. A
letter from Dr. Morris states that 64 deaths
had occurred in Norfolk on Monday. The
Herald gives the climes of &5 that died on Sun
day. An order has been received here for 100 ad
ditional coffins; 60 were sent down on Saturday.
The; boat brought up a large number of people
flying from . the scourge; some of the 'fugitives
have taken refuge in the rotunda of the ex
change until they can be provided with lodgings.
Thelever is abating as Portemouth; the deaths
average about ten daily.
A committee of citizens of Norfolk headed
by Dr. John 'McCabe passed through this city
to Washington this morning to ask the Presi
dent far permission to remove the remainder of
the inhabitants to Fort Monroe.
Catammerox, 8. C., September B.—The ship
Ariel; from New York for Ilthanghii„ has been
spoken off the bar. It is understood that the
captain joie been murdered by two apprendose
the body remains on board. A revenue cutter has
gone to bring the Ariel into port.
The chief of the Ariel, N. H. Lakeman, re
ports that'he found Capt. Agis dead is his berth
on the 17th of August. The officers, crew and
passengers objected to proceeding, and requested
him to put back. Capt. Corte, of the revenue
ender, boarded the Arid, and arrested Henry
Girard and George Anderson, the apprentices,
on suspicion of being the murderer'. Each do.
nied the deed, big eliminated each other. The
prisoners have been brought to this city. The
H. 8. authorities have charge of the vessel, offi.
cots and crew..
Walliparon Crrr, September 4.—The cabi
net held a meeting to-day. All the members
were present. Berard matters of Importance
Were considered, including despatches from Mr.
Buchanan and Mr. Mason. Much business has
ansunatilited during the Presidents absence.
Senor Abnonte, the Mexican Minister, does
