days, that of any other July for the last 67 years.
Ii also exceeds in quantity that of any prece
ding month during the same period. June of
this year very nearly equals July in quantity of
rain, haring 7.725 inches. The whole amount
of rain for the first seven months of this year is
26.888 inehes. The amount for same period of
last year was 15.177 inches. Whole amount for
1864, 23.264 Inches. The usual average for
this location is about 40 Inches per annum.
Threatens Ainiur.—For a week or more put,
a gang of midnight molds have been prowling
about the houses on Sandusky atreet, just above
the South Common, Allegheny. They were
once observed trying the strength of the shatters
- of one house, and were frsghtenett away. Oa
several occasions, they hive been seen in back
yards and alleys. It would perhaps be prudent
in them to desist now, as they may at some un
expected, moment receive a leaden warning
which will possibly put a summary stop to their
burglarlomt designs. "

South Pittsburgh, left for the oonntry for the
purpose of getting work. When walking out
Pennsylvania; avenue, he was suddenly taken ill
and he entered a stable, placed hie carpet-bag
in one end of a trough, and plaoing himself full
length in the trough he remained there all
night He was found there the next (Sunday)
morning, and immediately conveyed to the Mer
cy Hoepdal, where it was discovered that he was
suffering under an attack of the cholera. fie
was then in a very low condition, and was Roane
ly expected to survive. We did not learn, last
night, whether or not he had died.
Tux Crucus.—Pentland's circus arrived in
town yesterday with flying colors. The first ex
hibition was given last night, at the American
Hotel, to an immense crowd of delighted specta
tors. Circuses do take with the People, and
Pentland's particularly, for it is an uncommonly
good one.

to record another death - from cholera, in South
Pittsburgh. The victim was a woman named
Haller, wife of a workman in Sligo Mills. She
died on Sunday, after an illness of but a few
hours.

clergyman, formerly of our city, has been ap
pointed Professor of the Department of Hebrew
and Biblical criticism in Allegheny College,
Meadville. - He assumes the chair on the 20th
instabt. •

Warner, Fourth Street, was bnrgtarioualy enter
ed on Sunday night last and about $8 taken
from the drawer. The front and back doors
were found open in the morning. No arrest. -
Orman Ralph Frost desires us to return his

their timely assistance in arresting the rowdy
Mullen, at the fracas on the corner, of seventh
and Smithfield streets, a few evenings since. ,

New Yosx, August 6.—The steamship North
ern Light from San Jean arrived last night at
9 o'clock—coming up unannounced, owing to the
thick weather. She brings San Francisco dates
to the 16th July; 413 paseengers and $940,086
in treasure.
Capt. Walker was at Bealgo where he had
retreated from San Juan del Sod.
Col. IL L. Kinney with twenty-four followers
arrived at Ban Juan on the 16th in the brig
Huntress, of Philadelphia; they were engaged
in erecting buildings at Sen Juan. Diseatiefic
lios said to exist among them,
The news from the mines shows a better yield
than for several years.
Gold is said to have been discovered in large
quantities near Paget's Sound.
A 'eerions dispute had arisen between the
French Consul Wm Dillon and Samuel Her
mann of San Francisco, and a duel was thought
inevitable. Two or three other duels bad taken
place without any fatal result.
Twenty houses on Keambly and Bosh streets,
San Francisco were destroyed by fire on the

Punatairura, August 6.—The steamboat
!!'Donald, while on an excursion to Cape
May, OW Saturday night, came in collision with
the schooner A. G. Pease, from Portland, Con
necticut, and _received greet damage, attendrd
with loss of life among her passengers. The
steamer struck the schooner on the larboard side,
and carried away the wheel-hone and all the
rooms on that side of the boat. Some 10 or 12
persons were in the barber shop at the time - of
the accident, all 'of whom were swept overboard
and droWned; owing to the darkness of the night,
no assistance could be rendered to the injured
ands there being no register of passengers It is
impossible to give the names of those missing or
the number. The boat is damaged to the extent
of some $2OOO. The schooner received but little
injury.

Task, August B:—The brig Ocean Bird,'
which sailed yesterday for Ban Juno, carried out
a portion of the Blaney expedition. Among
the officers are Col. Young, late of Texas. and
fir'Lewelly!, late editor of the Amaiea. Sentinel,
who takes with him. materials for s printing
office.
The Evening Post contains letters from the
Kinney expedition which states that the Colonel
was enthusiastically received by the inhabitants
of Greytown; had exchanged courtesies with
the British authorities, and had attended a ball,
given in his honor. The expeditioniste were all
in excellent spirits.
A letter from Han Joee says that twenty of
the Lopes recruits who joined Walker's expepi
don, and afterwards fled to Costa Baca, had been
taken by Gen. Chamera's troops, who invaded
the territory for that purpose. Tim authorities
of Costa Elea had demanded an apology for this .
invasion of territory, and also the restoration of
the prisoners and the delivery of the authorities
who ordered the invasion. In case of reprisal,
• torero of 1500 men will march to Grenada to
dictate terms. In anticipation of hostilities a
levy of 5000 troops bad been ordered.
Lotrzarrum, August 6.—The majority for the
American ticket in this city is 1600. Riots oc
curred in the let and Bth Wards. Several have
been killed and many wounded. Two blocks of
buildings have been fired and are still burning.
There is intense excitement and there will prob•
ably be more fighting. The Irish fired from
windows and killed three Americans. One
Irishman was hung, and several were killed;
several others have been captured.

at Turk's Island joined the expedition there.
The Emigrant runners held a meeting in the
battery this evening in oppooltton to the conver
sion of Castle Garden as an emigrant depot.
There was no disturbance.
