Theodore P. Wright, makes its first arpearance
in public to-day. It Is composed of over an
hundred members—about sixty of whom will
appear in uniform today. Their uniforms and

faced braes buttons, upright Dollar: pants, light
blue with black stripe: epaulette, light bins
worsted with fringed border. We visited the

Not a thousand miles from this place
there resides s man, who, daring ;the time of
eta( Scarcity last winter, was the possestor of
several topsdred barrels of flour. This be de
clared he would not sell ander $l5 per barrel,
and, although he had en opportnity of disposing
of It ieseral times, at from $ll In $l2, yet be
held on to it, doubtless hoping that the drops
this season' would fail, and he *mild profit there-
by.
The prospect of a bountiful harvest became
more and more cheering, and the price of pro-.
visions fell lower and lower, when be became
alarmed lest flout , should come to $4 or $5, and
so he shipped it to Pittsburgh, where he sold it
for about,s9 per barrel.
He returned, eupposing he bed made the best
of a bad bargain, but ere long be received a
letter from the person to whom ho had sold the
flour, requesting him to come down immediately.
Hs atmordingly set out for Pittsburgh, and on ar
riving there he found that all his flour had turn
ed sour, and he WB3 compelled to return the
money aid take back the flour, which he after
wards sold to a starch maker for $2 and $8 per
per barrel, and again returned to his home "a
wiser if not a better man."

two young men aimed Thomaa Hughes and Wm. I
Arnold, made a decent on the Allegheny market,
and commenced extensive operations on the
pockets of unsuspecting persons who were en
gaged in pirobasiug marketing. They had ann
otated in relieving several of their pocket-books,
and had just taken front 'Warman woman named
Catherine Fieldsock, when rhe discovered the
theft, raised the alarm end gave Hughes clime,
bawling lastly "stop thief!" Hughes made off,
and by a mere chance, ran directly into the ernis
of Constable Scott, who collared hint. Ar

persons and handed overt° Stott, who conducted
the Mayor's Olhoe, when an examination

Councils 'tact on Thursday night, and an effort
was made in the Common Council to repeal the
ordinance relative to public speaking, which has
given so much offence to certain parties, but

Fischer, Oast, Graebing, Owens, J. B. Smith,

As the member of Council were retiring after
adjournment, they were greeted by loud shouts
and groans from an excited crowd which had as
sembled in front of the place of meeting.

RAILROAD Acomser.—At noon, on Monday I
last, as a German stone mason named Alai Per- I
lop was standing on a sideling of the Railroad,
near the machine shop, at Altoona, some freight
and cattle oars were being pushed about on the
different sidelings of the road, and on his en
deavoring to get out of the way of one train,
heedlessly stepped in the road of another train,
which knocked him down, passing over his right
leg, and crushingit in an awful manner, lateral
ly from the knee down to the ankle. Ile died
the same evening. lie was thirty-the years of
age, and leaves a wife to mourn his lose.

Three of the indirdnals from Elizabeth who were
convicted of malicious mischief at the Marsh
Term, were set at liberty yesterday—their Sen
tence having expired. One yet remains in jail,
having his proportion of the costs to pay. James
W. Bradley, one of the parties went before Ald.
McKenna yesterday, and made affidavit that he
was entirely innocent of any share or participa
tion in the act of malicious mischief for which
he- was tried and convicted.

greatly exaggerated. ' Owing to the high water
the stocks upon which the boat was placed gave
way, but the boat received no injury worth men
tioning ; the whole damage to the, boat can be

if nothing had happened..
